New French films are being introduced at Cannes
Keep them on your radar...

Many movies start their life in the Croisette at the Palais des Festivals. At Focus on French Cinema, here are the ones we keep a close eye on:

- Off Competition:
Grace de Monaco, by Olivier Dahan, was the Opening Movie, but got a cold reception, with a lot of skepticism and critics. It will be distributed, and maybe re-cut, by The Weinstein Company in the US.

- Competition:
Jean Luc Godard will not come to Cannes, but his movie Adieu au langage is in the Official Selection. Festival Director Gilles Jacob estimated it would help highlight the movie rather than the cult director.

Deux jours, une nuit (Two Days, One Night) by Luc & JP Dardenne, with Marion Cotillard, was screened yesterday and seduced the press!

Mommy, by Xavier Dolan: we showed his triumphant first feature, How I Killed my Mother, in 2010.

Saint Laurent, by Bertrand Bonello with Gaspard Ulliel, appears to be an interesting take on the fashion icon.

Sils Maria, by Olivier Assayas with Juliette Binoche, could be fascinating.

The Search, by Michel Hazanavicius with Berenice Bejo (The Artist). This remake, relocated in Chechnya, already divides...

- Un Certain Regard:
La chambre bleue (The Blue room) by Mathieu Amalric
(You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, FFC 2013).

Bird People, by Pascale Ferran
(Lady Chatterley, FFC 2008)

- La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs (Directors Fortnight):
Mange tes morts (Eat your bones) by Jean Charles Hue

P'tit Quinquin by Bruno Dumont

Alleluia by Fabrice du Weltz

Respire by Melanie Laurent

- Market:
Geronimo, by Tony Gatlif

These are names that we might find in our 2015 selection... And let's not forget the shorts Talents Cannes. After presenting last year's selection, we are certainly awaiting this year's edition!

For the Awards, rendez-vous after the closing ceremony on Sunday. One of the favorites so far is Mr Turner, by Mike Leigh... good news for British cinema!
Cannes Photographer, Stephane Kossmann, was at FFC 2014
See our festival & guests through his own lens...

At Focus on French Cinema, we have a close link with Cannes through accredited photographer Stephane Kossmann [Bio] who spend more than 26 years capturing the stars at the Cannes Film Festival. Stephane was on hand during our own 10th anniversary. Here is a selection, do not miss his coverage! [Click Here].

You can see a selection of these unique candid images of celebrities that have gained Kossmann international acclaim at the FIAF Gallery, 22 East 60th Street, New York, NY 10022, until June 14th, 2014.
Do you know?
The origin of the name "La Croisette"

The boulevard which the festival made famous, doesn't come from the French expression "se croiser" (to pass by someone), but from a small cross (La petite croix, or croisette), which was there before a casino replaced it in 1929...
