Marius and Fanny both released in France
The latest Marcel Pagnol adaptations by Daniel Auteuil
Marius/Fanny - Bande annonce

After playing Pagnol in the classics Jean de Florette and Manon des sources, Daniel Auteuil
turned director and delivered in 2011 The Well Digger's Daughter, another adaptation of the
great novelist from Provence, which was also acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic. The actor director continues by releasing this week, in France, Marius and Fanny. The two movies tell the first and second act of a poignant love story, setting the action on the Vieux-Port of Marseille. Be prepared to have them coming to the US soon, where they should encounter the success of their predecessors".'

In the first one, Marius is a young man who loves Fanny, but wants to become a sailor and see the world. She makes him jealous by seemingly accepting a marriage offer from Panisse, a much older man. This move does bring her the one she really loves, but she cannot keep him from his dream, so she decides to set him free. After realizing she became pregnant, the young girl is in the difficult situation of becoming a teen mom. She has no other resort than to finally marry Panisse, who takes care of her and the baby.

The following movie, Fanny, shows Marius at sea, wanting nothing more than to marry the girl he left. When he comes back, will he be able to reclaim her and become a father?
