B2B Connections Downtown Walking Tour

Join us for Career Day (Morning) at School #8
School 8 Logo
We're gearing up for another Career Day at School #8, and we're hoping that you can join us!
This is probably the most visible, potentially well-attended event between Rotarians and School #8 students.  Won't you please consider joining us for this the event, scheduled for Friday, June 9th from 9 to 11 am at the school? Your participation would involve standing at a table (in a large room where many fellow friendly faces are also manning their own tables), sharing information about your profession/function/industry, answering questions, and lighting a spark of curiosity in these youngsters, approximately 160 of them from Grades 6-8.

More than likely, most of the students will not know anything about the various professions represented by our Rotarians. That's the whole point of this annual event; we want to enlighten these students to the world of possibilities available to them.

Also, please spread the word among your non-Rotary friends. We have love to include as many different professions at this event as possible.

For more information or to sign up, contact Patty Phillips or Bill Keenan, or RSVP to Myrna at the Rotary office.
Community Service Teams
Veterans Outreach Center Flag Day Event

Join us on Flag Day, Wednesday, June 14th from 11am - 2pm for our next Community Service Teams project with the Veterans Outreach Center. We will be handing out flags downtown outside of the Home Leasing offices (hosted by Rotarian Jeff Jeenhouts). We will be stationed in the breezeway between Chase Tower and Clinton Square and will hand out flags during people's lunch hour.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions please email Jeff Leenhouts directly at jeff@homeleasing.net or call him at 727-0632.

Roberto Clemente School No. 8
Parent-teacher conferences are one of the best ways that a school, a student, and a student's family can come together to evaluate the student's progress, set future goals for the student to attain, and build better communications and relationships with the student's family.

This year, the traditional parent-teacher conference will change at Roberto Clemente School 8: each student will attend and lead his/her own conference twice during the school year. Students will take ownership of their learning, reflect upon their progress, explain areas of strength and weakness, and perhaps most importantly, set goals for both academic and personal development.

In this student led conference, the student puts in a tremendous amount of individual preparation. Unfortunately, not all parents are able to attend their child's conference and listen to how he/ she is doing, and how they plan to do better. That's where Rochester Rotary comes in: School 8 faculty and administration feel that this is such an important endeavor, that when a parent is unable to attend, they are asking a Rotarian to sit in on the conference. Our job is primarily to listen, ask relevant questions, and help the student set practical goals for academic and character improvement.

Conferences will be held on the following dates:

May 26th - 4th Grade
May 30th - 3rd Grade
May 31st - 2nd Grade
June 1st - 1st Grade
June 5th - Kindergarten

There will be two sessions each day: morning 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and afternoons 12:30-3:00 p.m. Can you be available for any day for any amount of time to listen? Is so, please contact Myrna in the Rotary Office at 546-7435 x 201 or myrna@rochesterrotary.org to schedule your time.
