Bishop Kearney - Creating a model that works!

Join us Tuesday, January 24th at the Floreano Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be Steve Salluzzo, President of Bishop Kearney High School. Steve was named the 5th President of Bishop Kearney High School in August 2015. He is responsible for overall administration and operation of the school, regularly works with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and provides leadership for the high quality academic programs. Prior to Bishop Kearney, Steve spent 14 years on the administrative side at St. John Fisher College, where his duties included daily oversight of six different administrative areas as well as teaching in the Sport Management program. Steve graduated from Ithaca College and is a life-long Rochesterian.

Steve will discuss how Bishop Kearney High School has embarked on some innovative ways to transform itself in non-traditional ways. Through their new residence program as well as the Work Study program, Bishop Kearney High School has created new and different enrollment and academic models to enhance the learning environment for all students.
TUESDAY LUNCHEON HIGHLIGHTS

Thank you to Heidi Zimmer-Meyer Downtown Rochester, NY President for your presentation "Downtown Development News". Heidi highlighted just a fraction of the projects going on downtown in "everybody's neighborhood" and how rapidly it is changing - she could have talked with us a lot longer listing all of the amazing projects and we sure could have listened!! Great things coming to downtown Rochester.

Volunteers Needed for
Rotary Books for the World

Volunteers are needed for an initiative called Rotary Books for the World (RBFTW). The objective of this program is to take books (mostly text books) that are no longer needed here in the USA and provide them to needy countries in order to improve literacy in those impoverished states. Books are currently being provided to countries in Southern and Western Africa, India, Pakistan, South and Central America as well as other countries.

We are looking for volunteers to sort and pack books that will be shipped from here to Texas and then on to the needy nations. This activity is scheduled for Thursday, January 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Rochester City School Districts Book Depot.  Please contact Myrna Padilla at the Rotary office at myrna@rochesterrotary.org if you would be able to take part in this initiative.

The RCSD Book Depository is at 835 Hudson. At the gate, tell the guard you are helping with the Rotary Books for the World project.  Drive through the gate and all the way straight back (passing buildings on the right) to a loading dock with an overhead door. Park near there in the parking area, and walk up a short ramp to a door and ring the bell to gain entrance. The sorting area is not too far from there inside.

Please contact Doug Cook at dougfromtor@rochester.rr.com if you have any questions. Your help will  be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Community Service Volunteer Opportunity -

Sign up today by contacting Myrna in the Rotary Office at myrna@rochesterrotary.org or 585-546-7435 x201.
Celebrating "Rising Up Together" with
New Member Class 2016

On Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at the River
side Convention Center the New Member Class will be celebrating "Rising up Together" during our luncheon and focusing on celebrating diversity, unity and supporting equality for all persons. Come listen to our luncheon speaker Super Bowl Champion, Roland Williams!! Roland is also a fellow member of Rochester Rotary's 2016 New Member Class.

We will be requesting "change for change" donations for the Sunshine Campus Reach for the Stars program that provides an adventure education program at no cost to 330 at-risk students from the Rochester City School District. Roland is a supporter of projects like this and events that benefit underprivileged children in Rochester. We would humbly ask for your attendance and contributions towards this wonderful cause.

Our lunch menu will include Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and a make your own Garbage Plate bar! We hope you can attend and help us celebrate "Rising up Together".
