News of YOUR Club
FAME's 5% Pledge
Growing Jobs in Middle Skills

Join us Tuesday, January 9th at the Floreano Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be Mike Mandina, President of Optimax Systems, Inc. Mike is a master optician and entrepreneur. After starting two
manufacturing businesses providing precision optics to photonics companies, Mike joined Optimax in 1991.

Mike will provide background about the employment skills gap and motivations for Optimax's participation in starting FAME and supporting the 5% Pledge.

He serves the local community and global industry through his guidance in organizations like the Rochester Regional Photonics Cluster, the NYS Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board and the High Tech of Rochester's Manufacturers Extension Partnership. Mike was instrumental in the development of FAME (Finger Lakes Advanced Manufacturer's Enterprise), a non-profit organization committed to workforce development, where he currently serves as chairperson. He is also involved in steering the MCC Optics Department Advisory Board Hiring Committee, the WIRED: Finger Lakes Partnership Governing Board and the Rochester Regional Economic Council's Photonics Work Group.
TUESDAY LUNCHEON HIGHLIGHTS
Congratulations Todd Baxter for being recognized as this week's Tootsie Roll Bright Spot - Donna Dedee and Don Alhart co-sponsored this Bright Spot salute to Rotarian Todd Baxter. He was recognized for taking his challenge of prostate cancer to the public - and encouraging men to be tested for one of more treatable cancers, which discovered in time. He was also recognized for his current work in guiding the Veterans' Outreach Center and the services they provide for so many veterans in our community.

Thank you to our guest speakers Bill Carpenter, CEO of RGRTA, Erik Frisch, Transportation Specialist for the City of Rochester and Bill McDonald, Program Officer for the United Way of Greater Rochester. The panel discussed the changing transportation industry as new products and services are changing the way people think about mobility. They also discussed the importance and value of transportation as it relates to job growth and economic revitalization, poverty reduction and access to health care.

Sunshine Kids Gala Information
Sunshine Kids Gala
Needs Your Help
The Sunshine Kids Gala is looking for your help as we put together the "Wine & Whiskey Pull" for this year's event. Guests will have an opportunity to purchase a wine cork with a number on it for $20 the night of the Gala; the number will be associated with a bottle of wine or whiskey they will go home with! This was a great hit last year so this year we would like to expand our pull to include at minimum 80 bottles of wine and 30 bottles of whiskey.

That being said we need your help - if you haven't had a chance to donate a bottle to the Gala we are asking if  you could bring one (minimum $15) to the Tuesday luncheon at the Convention Center on January 17th. If you are unable to attend the luncheon you can drop off anytime at the Rotary Office.

Thank you in advance for your support!

B2B Breakfast Meeting

Join us Wednesday, March 8th at 7:45 a.m.
i
n the Rotary Office Training Room for a breakfast meeting hosted by the B2B Committee. Guest speaker Ami Kassar, a Vistage member, is the founder and chief executive officer of Multifunding LLC, a Philadelphia-based consulting firm that specializes in helping business owners across the United States develop creative and cost-saving alternatives for their business debt needs and structure.

Kassar has been involved in business finance for two decades. He has advised the White House, The Treasury Department and The Federal Reserve Bank on the state of the financing markets. He writes a weekly column for inc.com and is frequently quoted in the national press on various small business issues.

Kassar will discuss how business strategy and financing strategy are intertwined. Often CEO's get stuck because they don't understand where their business is in a life cycle, what is inhibiting growth, and the best possible financing strategies at the right time.

Space is limited so we ask that you please register by clicking on the link below. The cost is $10 per person.
