The Impact of Social Media on the 2016 Election 

Join us on Election Day Tuesday, November 8th, at the Floreano Riverside Convention Center for a discussion moderated by our own Don Alhart about "The Impact of Social Media on the 2016 Election". Whether you're a social media guru or you have never seen a Twitter feed you will be interested in our panelist discussion about how this year's election season has been like none other before it - Are posts effective? Why have more media outlets chosen to declare support for candidates? How have social media platforms changed spending trends and what does this mean for future elections? We will cover these topics and many more with our panel;

TUESDAY LUNCHEON HIGHLIGHTS
What a tremendous day we had honoring Veterans during our annual Veterans Day program. First thank you to the Naval ROTC unit from University of Rochester for joining us to present the colors and thank you to Holy Childhood's Aimee DeHaven for a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem.

Our program on Tuesday focused on women in the military. We were honored to be joined by Ellen Adams, retired Major US Air Force, Luann VanPeursem, retired Mast Sergeant US Air Force and Laura Stradley, US Army (1996-2004) and current Director of Veterans Service Agency for the County of Monroe. Our panel was moderated by Veterans Outreach Center, Inc. Executive Director and 22-year Army Veteran Todd Baxter.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Tuesday's luncheon. Most importantly thank you to those who have served our Country.



Tuesday's Tootsie Roll Bright Spot shined on moderator Todd Baxter.

He is honored by his fellow Rochester Rotarians as a true community servant. A distinguished career of community service in law enforcement, including the Rochester Police Department and Chief of the Greece Police Department. A proud Veteran of the United States as a Military Police Officer and now his continuing service to veterans as Executive Director of the Veterans Outreach Center telling the Democrat and Chronicle:

"There is only one thing that will lead me away from police work, I have a true calling to be a cop, and that is the soft spot I have in my heart for veterans."

Add to this his Service Above Self as a Rochester Rotarian.

Thank you to all the volunteers from Heritage Christian Services who came out to the Campus to help with fall clean up and getting the Campus ready for the winter!
GobbleFest

Join us Monday, November 21st as we kick start the holiday season! What better way to kick off the season than with food, fun and friendship. 

We are asking attendees to bring a bottle of wine and or whiskey ($15 minimum). The bottles will be used to help raise funds during a raffle at the Sunshine Kids Gala.

It will start at 4:30 p.m. at the Rotary Office. We will provide food and drink so we just ask if you can RSVP for us to plan accordingly to Myrna at 546-7435 x210 or myrna@rochesterrotary.org.

Holiday Gala Pops Concert 

The Rochester Rotary - RPO Holiday Gala Pops Concert remains one of the Rochester Community's premier holiday events. The success of this event is critical to providing continued funding for our Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus - which helps to ensure thousands of young people with disabilities experience the many joys of summer camping. This year's concert will be held Thursday, December 15th.

As part of your Rotary membership obligation, we are asking you to support this critical fund-raising effort.

You can support this event in one of three ways:

1) Purchase or sell eight (8) tickets at $50.00 each. While you will be paying for your tickets through the invoice provided, you must secure your tickets either:
  • In person at the RPO Patron Service Center (108 East Ave.)
  • Call the RPO Patron Service Center at 585-454-2100 and they will mail tickets directly to you.
Note: no matter which method you chose to secure your tickets, you will need your 3-digit member number to secure your tickets.

2) Purchase a Patron Package with preferred seating and program recognition at $300 (includes 2 tickets). Contact Heather at 546-7435 x204, tickets will be sent directly from the Rotary Office.

3) If you are unable to attend this event, make a suggested holiday donation of $300 to the Rochester Rotary Charitable Trusts, Inc.

Tree Lighting Ceremony at the
DoubleTree by Hilton Rochester 

Join us Tuesday, November 29th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Rochester (1111 Jefferson Road) for the lighting of the Sunshine Campus Tree.

Enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and an open bar (beer and wine). Reservations are needed and the cost is $5 per person. Please register through the link below

91st Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner



This year's Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner
promises to be a very special evening - as we welcome RI President John Germ as our keynote speaker and celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Rotary Foundation.

Our dinner will be held Tuesday, December 6th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center. This dinner draws 400+ Rotarians from New York and Canada.

We are offering an Early Bird price of $45 per person until Friday, November 18th. After the 21st the price will be $50 per person.

Calling All Bell Ringers!

We are excited to continue our tradition this year of assisting in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. The Rochester Rotary Club has agreed to provide bell ringers for outdoor kettle entrances at Eastview Mall on Thursday, December 8th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
 
Shift 1: 5:00-6:30 p.m. ~ Shift 2: 6:30-8:00 p.m.
 
We would like to form teams of four to six per kettle per shift to allow for inside mall "warming breaks" as needed. Family members and friends are welcome to join us. This is a wonderful way to share in the spirit of the holiday season with your fellow Rotarians, family and friends!
