Veterans Day Program
american-flag-wavy.jpg
Join us Tuesday, November 1st at the Floreano Riverside Convention Center for our annual Veterans Day luncheon featuring a panel discussion focusing on women in the military moderated by VOC Executive Director Todd Baxter. Panelists include:

- Ellen Adams, Major (retired) served 20 years in the US Air Force.
Deployed to Baghdad in 2004 where she was responsible for helping to equip the new Iraqi Army. She used her GI Bill to attend Culinary School and in 2015 Chef Ellen competed on Food Network's "Chopped" for the Veteran's Day episode. Even though she got "chopped", she was able to complete her vision by helping to start the cooking school at the EquiCenter called "Cooking with Heroes".

- Luann Van Peursem, Master Sergeant (retired) served 33 years in the US Air Force. Luann served in multiple deployments including Desert Storm, Iraq & Afghanistan. Luann was instrumental in bringing together Chef Ellen and the EquiCenter to establish the cooking program to aid veterans in preparing healthy meals for themselves.

- Laura Stradley, United States Army from August 1996 through October 2004, leaving with a rank of Staff Sergeant. Laura is the Director of the Veterans Service Agency of County of Monroe. She was chosen for recognition in the NYS Veteran Hall of Fame not just for her time of service, but for her sacrifice and commitment to the veteran's community in Monroe County and the surrounding area. She serves on the Board of the Veterans Outreach Center.

Volunteers Still Needed for
Rotary Books for the World

Volunteers are still needed to sort and pack books for the Rotary Books for the World (RBFTW) project which sends books that are no longer needed here to needy countries around the world.

We are looking for volunteers to sort and pack books again this Monday, October 31 between between the hours of 9:00AM and 4:00PM at the Rochester City School Districts Book Depot at 835 Hudson Avenue. Please contact Myrna Padilla at the Rotary office or Doug Cook if you would be able to take part in this initiative and let us know what time you would be able to start so that someone can be by the door to direct you to the site. As you drive in through the gate, mention that you are helping with the RBFTW project and drive all the way straight back (passing buildings on the right) to loading docks at the rear of the area. Park near there in the parking area, and walk up a short ramp to a door and ring the bell to gain entrance. The sorting area is not too far from there inside. Someone should be there to direct you.

Please contact Doug Cook if you have any questions. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Holiday Gala Pops Concert

The Rochester Rotary - RPO Holiday Gala Pops Co

This year's concert will be held Thursday, December 15th.

Calling All Bell Ringers!

We are excited to continue our tradition this year of assisting in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. The Rochester Rotary Club has agreed to provide bell ringers for outdoor kettle entrances at Eastview Mall on Thursday, December 8th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

 Shift 2: 6:30-8:00 p.m.

We would like to form teams of four to six per kettle per shift to allow for inside mall "warming breaks" as needed. Family members and friends are welcome to join us. This is a wonderful way to share in the spirit of the holiday season with your fellow Rotarians, family and friends!

Please email or call Brandi Koch at brandi@rochesterrotary.org
or 546-7435 x210 to sign up for a shift by Thursday, December 1st so that we can appropriately organize our teams.

We promise to do our best to fulfill your preferred shift request.
The Friendship Committee needs your help
Do you know of any Rotarians who may be ill?

One of the functions of the Friendship Committee is to reach out to Rotarians who are confined to their home, the hospital, a rehab unit or nursing home due to a sustained illness. We have found that they really appreciate hearing from fellow Rotarians, whether with a card, a call or a visit. But we need your help. We can only make contact with those Rotarians who have been brought to our attention. So, if you hear about someone who should be contacted, please don't assume we know. You could be the only one who knows.

Please contact Myrna at 546-7435 x201 or myrna@rochesterrotary.org to convey the information.

Thank You

Memorials
