News of YOUR Club
"Imagine RIT: The Best Way to Predict
the Future is to Create It"

Join us Tuesday, April 5th at the Floreano Riverside Convention Center where our guest speakers will be Past President Barry Culhane, Festival Chairman and Heather Cottone, Chair of Program & Logistics.

The largest single event at RIT for the last 9 years is "Imagine RIT" which draws almost 35,000 people to the campus on one day in May. Visitors have an opportunity to experience hands on learning with innovative creations presented by over 2800 RIT students, faculty and staff. There are no external vendors or companies for this is an opportunity for our RIT community to "strut its stuff" to the Greater Rochester Community and beyond. Over 500 volunteers assist visitors, many families with K-12 children, who find out college is not just about books, but about inventing our future. Each year Dr. Destler offers up one of his banjos for a special competition as teams modify e-vehicles, drones, and this year - accessibility and inclusion inventions in the Clark Gym. Barry  and Heather will take you through the history of the festival, the logistical challenges and some of the wonderful outcomes.

Rochester Rotary International
Service Committee
For the last two years the Rochester Rotary International Service Committee (ISC) has been working to identify and fund projects that significantly improve the lives of less fortunate people around the globe. We have decided to concentrate on three of Rotary International's six areas of focus, namely: Providing clean water, Supporting education, and Fighting disease. The committee also emphasizes projects where we can partner with existing efforts and with other area Rotary clubs.

Our first and ongoing project was to help fund the University of Rochester "Engineers Without Borders" water purifying project in the Dominican Republic. Partnering with the Rochester Latino Rotary Club and obtaining District grants provided the project with $8000, while using only $2000 of Rochester Rotary budgeted funds.

A somewhat different effort, organized by District 7120 and Honeoye Falls Mendon Rotary, was sorting surplus school books for shipping around the world to a long list of countries including South Africa, Guyana, Pakistan, Swaziland, Panama and Cameroon. Rochester Rotary non-committee members were a big part of this effort.

Over the last two years, the Rochester Rotary ISC has made significant contributions to seven additional initiatives, and the complete list is shown here with associated partners:
