Our Public Narrative: Sharing Your
Rochester Story with an EDGE

Join us Tuesday, January 19th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be Pam Sherman, AKA the Suburban Outlaw.

Pam Sherman, is a writer, actor, recovering lawyer and leadership consultant who was profiled in People Magazine about her career transition from attorney to actor. Today Sherman conducts programs and coaches leaders all over the world in leadership communications and how to present themselves and their mission with passion.

Pam will share her Rochester story and how developing and growing our Rochester public narrative is all about the personal and specific stories we share as leaders to our various audiences.

2016-2017 Club Board Election

Pursuant to the Club Bylaws, the Club Nominating Committee recently recommended, and the Club Board of Directors approved, the following Slate for the 2016-2017 Board of Directors' election.

 

Other Nominations for the 2016-2017 Board of Directors may come from the club membership-at-large. If you decide to nominate someone for the various club positions noted below, your nomination must receive 24 seconds in order to be placed on the ballot that will be mailed to the club members for voting purposes.

 

Please submit your nomination to Club Executive Director, Tracey Dreisbach, no later than Friday, January 22nd at 4:00 p.m. Ballots will be mailed the week of January 25th.

The first Rochester Rotary Award was presented to Sol Heumann in 1936. Awarded annually since then, the award recognizes a community member who has made significant contributions to others and to our region.

"Underground Railroad: A Spiritual Journey"
at Eastman School of Music

Five-time Grammy Award-winning soprano Kathleen Battle and longtime collaborator, jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut, join forces to present a program entitled "Underground Railroad: A Spiritual Journey" on
Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 8:00 PM as part of the Eastman School of Music's second season of its "Eastman Presents" series. The concert, which explores traditional slave spirituals and the writings of abolitionists Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas, also features the debut performance of the Rochester Festival Chorus,a new ensemble composed of Rochester-area singers and conducted by Eastman alumnus Jason Holmes.
 
You are cordially invited to a pre-concert reception at the Eastman School of Music, hosted by Director of Concert Activities, Keith C. Elder. The event is $40, inclusive of the reception and a ticket to the performance. Please register by January 26.

On February 9th's Tuesday Luncheon, the New Member Class will be celebrating the Gift of Music in Rochester, NY with Live Entertainment as well as New Orleans menu and decorations. A raffle will also take place to benefit the music program of Roberto Clemente School No. 8.

Sunshine Campus is looking for a
Resident Assistant Facilities Manager
 

A great opportunity to be a Resident Assistant Facilities Manager at a camp that serves people with disabilities. This person helps us exceed guest expectations of the overall maintenance, cleanliness, ambiance and beauty of the campsite. This position is outdoors and focuses on the cleanliness and care of property and facilities while performing routine maintenance duties. Based upon fluctuating and seasonal demands of the camp, it may be necessary to occasionally perform different functions within the Facilities department.

Qualified candidates should possess the following: General knowledge related to the field of maintenance, generally acquired through at least 2 years of experience in related fields preferred. Performance includes but is not limited to the following skills: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, assisting with electrical, machine repair, painting, and janitorial. Professionalism in the workplace demonstrated by respectful and polite interactions with all guests and co-workers. Ability to multi-task and manage a variety of tasks. Should have working knowledge of basic hand and power tools. Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches. Experience using and maintaining grounds tools, including but not limited to: mowers, weed-eaters, sprayers, blowers, hand and power saws, chain saws. Ability to work well individually and as a team member.

Rotarian Western New York Books for the World
(WNY BFTW)
Has Urgent Need of Storage Space
 
The Rotarian WNY BFTW is a part of an international organization delivering desperately needed texts and reading materials to developing nations throughout the world. We have an urgent need for sufficient space to use for sorting, packing and storing donated books on shipping pallets until they are ready to ship out.    
 
Space requirements are:
1,000 square feet minimum
Location within 30 minute drive from downtown Rochester
Temperature of the space needs to be 55 degrees to 80 degrees, humidity-controlled if possible.
A loading dock, pallet jack and, if possible, a forklift are also needed to move the books and pallets.
 
As part of a Rotary Club, we are a 501C3 organization and, as such, any contributions or donations qualify as a tax deduction.
