The Movies and Rochester

Join us Tuesday, September 15th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speakers will be Nora Brown, Executive Director of Rochester/Finger Lakes Film & Video Office and Jack Garner, Freelance Writer for the Democrat and Chronicle.

The veteran Rochester-based, national film critic, Jack Garner, and Nora Brown, Executive
Director of Rochester's High Falls Film Festival, will discuss the great movie tradition in Rochester, the upcoming annual film festival, and also Jack's recently published memoir of a lifetime looking at the movies.

Jack will be selling his book "From My Seat on the Aisle: Movies and Memories" for $20.

TUESDAY LUNCHEON HIGHLIGHTS
 
At Tuesday's luncheon we had the pleasure of having with us three sports gurus Mike Catalana, Scott Pitoniak and Leo Roth to discuss the upcoming NFL season as it kicks off on Thursday September 10th. Our panelist shared their views on the Buffalo Bills, Rex Ryan and predictions for the upcoming season. Members had a chance to provide their Superbowl predication's with a $100 gift card prize for our winner. A special thanks to our guest speakers for providing us an entertaining and optimistic look into the 2015-16 NFL season. While our members wore their favorite team apparel the majority of the room was rooting for our home town team - Lets Go Buffalo!

Congratulations to Perry Bradley for being nominated for the Bright Spot of the week by Rochester Rotarian Carl Gerard. Perry co-chairs the Friendship Committee with Carl. 







We welcomed visiting Rotarian Judge Bill Taylor from the Pittsford Rotary Club. 



Rotary Sunshine Camp Day

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act signed into law, the Rotary Sunshine Camp is recognized for meeting the needs of our community and providing a wonderful opportunity for people to experience new adventures and create lifelong memories.
There was also a special mention of the first accessible tree house built in Monroe County.

Tuesday, September 8, 2015 was proclaimed Rotary Sunshine Camp Day by Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, County Legislature President Jeffrey R. Adair  and County Legislator Karla Boyce.

90th Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner 



This year's 90th Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner will be Sunday, October 18th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

This year we are embracing the theme -- "Closer Than Ever..." as we welcome Rotary Foundation Trustee and Chair of Rotary International's PolioPlus Committee, Michael McGovern as our Keynote Speaker.

We are offering an Early Bird price of $45 per person until Monday, September 28th. After the 28th the price will be $50 per person.

Rotary volunteer power?

The Community Service Team Committee is now seeking recommendations for projects for 2015-16. Already, volunteers have signed up to assist Foodlink with their upcoming event at the Rochester Public Market. For additional projects, we would like to give first preference for recommendations to the Rochester Rotarians who lead non-profits in our community, as well as to the causes which are near-and-dear to Rotarians.

We would like to invite you to apply for the opportunity in the 2015-16 year to have the Community Service teams help your organization.   We will select 4-6 projects for the Rotary year. All applications for participation must be received by the Rochester Rotary office at 180 Linden Oaks, Suite 200, Rochester, NY 14625 by Wednesday, September 23rd.

To apply, please complete the following questions on your letterhead. The committee will use those responses to determine which projects can be part of our service year.

1. Organization name.
2. Who is served by your organization?
3. Describe (150 words or less) why your organization needs the assistance of Rochester Rotarians.
4. How do you envision promoting the volunteer service to your constituents and the public/media at large? Can you partner with Rotary on these public relations opportunities?
5. The project should be a hands-on project not to exceed 6 hours and provide enough work for 10 + volunteers. Please describe the project.
6. Please indicate a day of the week and time
preference.

Rotary Boot Camp is a quick "training" on all the "ins" and "outs" of Rochester Rotary. We ask that all new members attend one session -- as well as longtime Rotarians who need a refresher on their Club.
 
These sessions are both social and informative. Strap up your boots and save the date, we will save you a seat!

Buffalo Bills "Tailgate" Party hosted
by Tim & Linda O'Neil

Join us Sunday - Oct. 4th for the Bills game against the Giants hosted by the O'Neil's at their Canandaigua Lake home. Attendees are asked to bring a tailgate snack for the group - drinks and pizza will be provided.
