News of YOUR Club
The monroe200 Report

Join us Tuesday, July 14th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.

The monroe200 Report contains the findings of the monroe200 initiative. Announced in her 2014 State of the County, County Executive Maggie Brooks assembled a team of 200 nominated millennials who told her what they want to see in a community. After breaking the millennials up into eight groups (Jobs & Economic Development, Housing, Education, Recreation & Culture, Transportation & Mobility, Environment & Sustainability, Safety & Security, Health & Wellness) a final report was created. This is her first stop in her monroe200 tour to share the report findings with community leaders throughout the County.

We will also get to hear Don Alhart read the children's book he authored, "Beefurs Sunshine Treehouse".
A Message from President Pete

Thank you all for giving me one of the highest honors I could ever be given that being the opportunity to serve as President of our wonderful club. A special thank you to Tracy Armstrong for leading the charge to get "My Treehouse" from concept to reality. The treehouse is already changing children's lives! Last years theme from Rotary International was "Light Up Rotary." Tracy Armstrong the Rotary light has never been brighter. Thank you for all the energy you put into your year. Well done.

Our theme this year is "Be A Gift To The World." Think about this theme. I love this theme. Imagine 34,000 Rotarians worldwide all trying in their own way to do a little something more for those less fortunate to be a gift. I ask you to take this journey with me and really think about this theme. I guarantee whatever it is you do to be a gift be to the world will always become a bigger gift to you. I dare you to dream.

If you missed my first meeting there are a few things I want you to know. If I want to share something important, I will send it in a more detailed e-mail directly to you. Please take the time to read the information, I will not overwhelm you with messages. There is no way we can accomplish anyone's dreams if you don't know what they are or what the plan is. I will recap my first meeting this way.

My top goals this year are
I want this year to mean something to you personally.
I want to make a difference in your Rotary experience.
I want to inspire and encourage your involvement.
I want the community to know more about our Rochester Rotary Club and all the good we do.
I WANT TO HAVE FUN!!!!

I also have gifts for each member, if you weren't at this weeks' meeting please see me or our office staff to pick yours up. You will receive a new Rochester Rotary Logo Pen, a "My Treehouse" Pen, a Rotary piece detailing what Rotary does and this years "Be a Gift to the World" theme pin.

A special thank you to the 19 Past Presidents who participated in a video giving me advice for the year - It was fantastic! I have received overwhelming positive feedback! I appreciate and will take to heart your kind words and wisdom.

Thank you once more for the opportunity.
President Pete

"My Treehouse" Dedication

On June 30th we held the treehouse dedication, President Tracy Armstrong's final event of her very successful year. Over 350 guests were there to celebrate this wonderful occasion. We were thrilled to have B'fer Roth, the designer and builder of the treehouse in attendance along with most of our Rotarians, sponsors and friends who put so much time into the project.

Tracy announced Don Alhart had authored a children's book for this special occasion. Don read "Beefurs Sunshine Treehouse" to a silent crowd. A very emotional moment. The book will be available soon for purchase. B'fer was almost speechless when asked to make a few comments, humbled by the book and the beautiful handout, created by Megan Alchowiak for the dedication, he explained how wonderful it was to work with so many dedicated people. A project like this not only produces great results it produces life long friendships. He was so impressed with all our Rotarians who stepped up he is going to join his local Rotary club.
Pete Sarratori closed the evening out with a thank you to everyone for supporting his idea and making it a reality. We can officially tell the world the building of "My Treehouse" is one of the featured stories on the DIY network. B'fer's "The Treehouse Guys" series will begin on July 14th. We will let you know when our episode airs.

After remarks rides were given out to see this perfect addition to a magical place...our Sunshine Campus. If you missed the dedication hand outs are available in the Rotary Office with some great stories and a list of our donors.

New Club Logo
RI recently refreshed its logo with a simpler, more modern version of the wheel. And in what may be a first, individual clubs are being given the opportunity to customize it with their own.

It allows us the opportunity to become better aligned with and more closely tied to Rotary International. This new logo is replacing the Club logo that we've used for more than a decade.

Don Alhart's
Tootsie Roll Bright Spot

Congratulations to Don Alhart for being our first Tootsie
Roll Bright Spot. President Pete Sarratori immediately joined the Tootsie Roll club after Don explained how you can become a member for $100 and nominate someone you feel should be recognized as a "Bright Spot."

Don authored a childrens book and read it to B'fer, the artist builder behind the treehouse and the more than 350 guests who attended the treehouse dedication last week. The book "Beef
urs Sunshine Treehouse" has been illustrated and will be published and available for sale soon. The reading was very touching and brought many to tears.

For those of you who missed this historic event, Don had agreed to read his wonderful creation one more time. You won't want to miss the meeting on July 14th for this special occasion.

We Need Your Help!

We are excited to have been chosen as the charity this year that will benefit from the Red Wings "Launch a Ball" promotion.  Folks who go to a Saturday game can buy a tennis ball before the game and throw them on the field after the game to try to win a prize.

The proceeds from this promotion will go to Sunshine Campus.  In addition to being talked about during the games, the camp will be featured in radio ads on Warm 101.3, 94.1 The Zone and 93.3 Fickle.

To make this succesful, we need you help.

We need eight volunteers for each Saturday night game this year, May 16th to August 29th.  All you have to do is sell tennis balls before the game, as a volunteer, you'll get to enjoy the game for free.

Plus, there will be fireworks after each game!

The following are dates that volunteers are needed:

August 1st

August 15

August 29th

To sign up, contact Brandi at the Rotary office at 546-7435 x210 or brandi@rochesterrotary.org.
