News of YOUR Club
Treehouse Dedication

Our Treehouse Dedication will be held Tuesday, June 30th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sunshine Campus.

Reservations were needed for this event.

President Tracy's Journal

This week's meeting started out with a slide show of pictures down memory lane from my year as President  and heartfelt thanks to the Rotary staff, Charitable Trusts Board and Dave Ferris, Club Board, Past President Bob Attardo, Sergeant at Arms Jeff Leenhouts and Kathleen Pringle, Invocator Peter Kelderhouse, Don Alhart for the News of the Day each week, Greeters, Committee Chairs and our Members that have sat on a committee for helping accomplish all I had hoped for and more during my year as President.

I am beyond proud of this club and feel confident that we lit up Rotary this year in a big way with all of our members taking time to live the Rotary Motto "Service Above Self". Those in the audience and now those reading know how very much I care and am thankful for being a part of and President of this fine organization. Where else can you be surrounded by such a dedicated and stellar group of individuals anytime we have an event? Our community is better because of our efforts and our campers are happy and satisfied.

Below are a few impressive stats from this past year -

  • Treehouse and Sensory Stimulation building projects brought in $460,000!
  • Our Gold tournament, RPO Holiday Pops and Sunshine Kids Gala helped us raise over $295,000 to benefit our Sunshine Campers!
  • The Membership Committee brought in 39 new members to our Club!

The highest tribute came with Bob taking over and asking a number of Rotarians to speak about what my impact was on them. Beautiful, warm, flattering, humbling, happy, proud and bittersweet. I so admire this club and those in it that I won't ever forget this....I am still on cloud nine.

As If that hadn't been enough then Chip Lacure had collected funds for a Paul Harris fellow in my name. Those that were involved I am so full of pride and touched with the generosity.

I enjoyed every moment of my presidency and will cherish the experience and friendships that have been life enriching. Thank you all!

Congratulations and best wishes to Peter Sarratori and Donna Dedee. This Club is in great hands and I am excited to see what is to come over the next few years!

Volunteers Needed
Rotary Books for the World

The International Service Committee has been asked to take part in a volunteer initiative called Rotary Books for the World.  This objective of this program is to take books (mostly text books) that are no longer needed here in the USA and provide them to needy countries in order to improve literacy in those impoverished states.  Books are currently being provided to countries in Southern and Western Africa, India, Pakistan, South and Central America.

We are looking for a few volunteers to sort and pack books that will be shipped from here to Texas and then on to the needy nations.  The next activity where we could help is scheduled for next Thursday, July 2 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Rochester City School Districts Book Depot at 835 Hudson Avenue.  Please contact Doug Cook at dougfromtor@rochester.rr.com  if you would be able to take part in this initiative.

Thank You
Larry Fritz!

Rochester Rotary would like to thank Larry Fritz for his 24 years of service to the Sunshine Campus. Larry will be retiring in the end of June and moving to New Hampshire to be closer to his son and grandkids. Larry has been a dedicated and long-time employee who has devoted his time and talents to making the Sunshine Campus a better place. Thank you Larry and we wish you the best of luck on your new adventure in New Hampshire.

We Need Your Help!

We are excited to have been chosen as the charity this year that will benefit from the Red Wings "Launch a Ball" promotion.  Folks who go to a Saturday game can buy a tennis ball before the game and throw them on the field after the game to try to win a prize.

The proceeds from this promotion will go to Sunshine Campus.  In addition to being talked about during the games, the camp will be featured in radio ads on Warm 101.3, 94.1 The Zone and 93.3 Fickle.

To make this succesful, we need you help.

We need eight volunteers for each Saturday night game this year, May 16th to August 29th.  All you have to do is sell tennis balls before the game, as a volunteer, you'll get to enjoy the game for free.

Plus, there will be fireworks after each game!

The following are dates that volunteers are needed:

July 4th

August 1st

August 15

August 29th

To sign up, contact Brandi at the Rotary office at 546-7435 x210 or brandi@rochesterrotary.org.

The Friendship Committee needs your help!

Do you know of any Rotarians who may be ill!

One of the functions of the Friendship Committee is to visit Rotarians who are confined to their home, the hospital, a rehab unit or nursing home due to a sustained illness.  We have found that they really appreciate a visit.  But we need your help.  We can only make contact with those Rotarians who have been brought to our attention.  So, if you hear about someone who should be seen, please don't assume we know.

Please contact Myrna at 546-7435 x201 to convey the information.

Thank You
