News of YOUR Club
Volunteers of America's
 Camp HEROES

Join us Tuesday, April 28th at Locust Hill Country Club where our guest speaker will be Rotarian JoAnne Ryan, President and CEO of the VOA WNY.

Volunteers of America is a local, non-profit human services agency that has been serving the Greater Rochester Region for more than 100 years, providing much-needed programs to help people in need rise out of poverty, move toward self-reliance and reach their full potential.  Each year, the agency serves more than 6,000 men, women and children.   Volunteers of America is proud to partner with the City of Rochester Police Department and Fire Department to create a new program -called Camp HEROES-that will provide a positive summer experience for at-risk children and create lasting relationships with members of our local police force and fire department.

President Tracy's Journal

SPRING is in the air....or so we hope! As did Dan Mason, GM of the Rochester Red Wings and this week's luncheon speaker, he was just 7 degrees off from his opening day temperature promise, but after a 9th inning win that day Dan is very excited about this year's season and all the new happenings over at the Frontier Field.

$1.00 Wednesday peanuts, popcorn and cracker jacks -- Nooooooooo not beer! They have introduced some great new menu items at several of the field's delicious vendors. I can't wait to try some of them out when we head over to Frontier Field May13th - be sure to register with the Rotary Office for that!

The really big announcement was the addition of "timers" being used this season to speed up the game. Pitchers will have 20 seconds in between pitches to throw the next pitch and the batter has same amount of time to get into the box and start receiving the pitches or give up a strike.  Overall the Baseball association is trying this theory out in the minor leagues before moving it up to the major League. This has been brought in as part of the fresh vision of the new commissioner of baseball in hopes of speeding up the game and shortening it by 20-30 minutes.  Dan also spoke about the new manager Mike Quade, his experience and the energy he brings to the team. We were lucky to have him given his experience in the Major Leagues.

We have a lot of exciting upcoming events be sure to read through Spoke to find out more and keep an eye on your emails - I don't think you are going to want to miss out on these!

78th Rotary Award Recipient -
James B. Isaac

Jim Isaac Fine

"Jim Isaac may best be identified in the Rochester region for his key role in building an iconic company, Isaac Heating & Air Conditioning.  For those who know him, however, including his fellow Rochester and Monroe County Rotarians, Jim Isaac has built his greater reputation on a selfless dedication to our community.

It's no exaggeration to say that nearly every day of his adult life, Jim Isaac helps an individual or organization in need.  That he does it at all is a monumental achievement, but everyone who meets Jim quickly learns that he executes his service with as much joy as he does purpose.  Jim's quick smile and calm manner have put more than a few people at ease with difficult situations - even before he gets to the task at hand."

                 -  Bob Enright

This year's luncheon will be held Tuesday, June 16th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

The Friendship Committee needs your help!

Do you know of any Rotarians who may be ill?

One of the functions of the Friendship Committee is to visit Rotarians who are confined to their home, the hospital, a rehab unit or nursing home due to a sustained illness.  We have found that they really appreciate a visit.  But we need your help.  We can only make contact with those Rotarians who have been brought to our attention.  So, if you hear about someone who should be seen, please don't assume we know.

Please call Myrna at 546-7435 x201 to convey the information.

Thank You
