The Crisis in K-12 Education
and East High School

Join us Tuesday, March 31st at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be President Joel Seligman, University of Rochester.

There is a crisis in the United States K-12 public education that has been long recognized.  Even after many well-intentioned reform efforts on the national, state and local levels, the issue is not being addressed effectively today.  University of Rochester President Joel Seligman will discuss the failure of many schools in Rochester and across the nation, as well as the implications for all of us.  He will describe the University of Rochester's bold initiative to become Superintendent of East High School in July of this year, an effort that the University hopes will become a model for transforming urban K-12 schools nationwide.

President Tracy's Journal

Thank you to the B2B committee for a wonderful Trade Show this week, congratulations to co-chairs Andrew Brady and Terry Kelley for a successful event. We had 35 member companies on display and nothing but positive feedback from all in attendance. This is such a fantastic event to allow our members to highlight their business and the ability to learn what potential resources are available through own fellow members -- It's great to do business with a Rotarian!

Great appreciation to the Rotary staff for assisting with this event as well as the staff JAFRRCC and Great Lakes for making it a "good looking" tradeshow in our own blue and gold!

The singing of Happy Birthday and the silly string were a big surprise and I am still laughing and touched - thank you!

I hope you are able to join us next Tuesday as we welcome President Joel Seligman to the Rotary podium to discuss the partnership with the UofR and East High.

The Friendship Committee needs your help!

Do you know of any Rotarians who may be ill?

One of the functions of the Friendship Committee is to visit Rotarians who are confined to their home, the hospital, a rehab unit or nursing home due to a sustained illness.  We have found that they really appreciate a visit.  But we need your help.  We can only make contact with those Rotarians who have been brought to our attention.  So, if you hear about someone who should be seen, please don't assume we know.

Please call Myrna at 546-7435 x201 to convey the information.

Thank You

Interact Project at District Assembly

Interactors are doing a District Interact project and would like the help of Rotarians.  We are collecting small size tooth paste, tooth brushes, shampoos, conditioners, soap, washcloths, combs and brushes to make toiletry bags to be given to a women's shelter or kids in crisis (foster care).  These bags will be assembled at the District Assembly.  Our goal is 100 bags.  If your club could help collect these items and send them to the District Assembly or contact Mary Anne Cooper, District Chair at mcooper2@stny.rr.com.
