President Tracy's Journal

Good Afternoon Rotarians!  Very fitting to commence the meeting with a poem from Shel Silverstein, it set the tone to a fun day. (Thank you Tracey D.) What a fantastic luncheon on Tuesday with over 60 children from School 8. This was our first annual "Spring into Reading" program. I know the children loved spending time with us reading. They were also keen on the books brought to lunch by our own members as well as 100 books that ABVI- Goodwill donated. This allowed each child to take more than one book home! Thank you Ms. Gidget Hopf.  Sharon Flynn a teacher at School 8 made us aware just how much Rotary support has meant to the students over the past 20 years. We "light up" those kids each and every time we are in contact with them. Ms. Christine Sickles, School 8 Principal expressed her gratefulness and admiration to our club for all we do along with our own Jason Valenti. Thank you to Lynne Halik for dental supplies and Foodlink for the snacks in the goodie bags.  I would like to thank the Rotary staff for all the extra effort to make this lunch so very special. Vicki Licata thanks for the cookie decorating supplies.  Staff at JAFRRCC you are the best.

For all those Rotarians that visit School 8 you make a difference in these kids' lives.

Interact Project at District Assembly

Interactors are doing a District Interact project and would like the help of Rotarians.  We are collecting small size tooth paste, tooth brushes, shampoos, conditioners, soap, washcloths, combs and brushes to make toiletry bags to be given to a women's shelter or kids in crisis (foster care).  These bags will be assembled at the District Assembly.  Our goal is 100 bags.  If your club could help collect these items and send them to the District Assembly or contact Mary Anne Cooper, District Chair at mcooper2@stny.rr.com.
