Spring Into Reading with School 8

  School 8 Logo

March 17th, Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center

Tuesday, March 17th we have put together an exciting program with our partners at Roberto Clemente School #8. If you have not had the chance to go to School 8 or volunteer with the kids we are bringing the opportunity to you!

We will be joined by 50 students from School 8 for lunch and updates from School 8 about ongoing projects and how Rotarians involvement makes the school a better place.

Rotarians are being asked to bring a book with them that the students can take home with them that day(1st or 2nd grade reading levels). If you have wanted to learn more about our Adopt a School program at #8 or visit the school and work with the students - don't miss this week's program at Rotary.   It will surely be a highlight of the year.

To sign up for the luncheon please register with Brandi Koch in the Rotary Office at brandi@rochesterrotary.org.

President Tracy's Journal

What an extraordinary week for Rochester Rotary. Thank you to the Rochester Business Alliance and Bob Duffy for partnering with us to cohost NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo at our weekly luncheon. It was a fantastic lunch and a great program. The Governor discussed many issues that continue to be a concern in Upstate New York and the Rochester region.

Our Rotary back drop was viewed by people across the state as every media outlet in town was there to cover the luncheon. This was a great opportunity for us to "Light Up Rotary" and show the community the caliber of speakers Rochester Rotary works to bring each week.

Thank you to our members for rolling with the changes of the day and to the staff at Rotary and the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center for making it all happen.

We have some great programs coming up and really would like to see a good turnout for our School 8 reading next week! Please remember we are asking all Rotarians to bring a book (1st or 2nd grade reading levels) with them to the luncheon so each student can take a new book home with them.

Enjoy the sun!

The Friendship Committee needs your help!

Do you know of any Rotarians who may be  ill?

One of the functions of the Friendship Committee is to visit Rotarians who are confined to their home, the hospital, a rehab unit or nursing home due to a sustained illness.  We have found that they really appreciate a visit.  But we need your help.  We can only make contact with those Rotarians who have been brought to our attention.  So, if you hear about someone who should be seen, please don't assume we know.

Please call Myrna at 546-7435 x201 to convey the information.

Thank you

What is going on in the district?

District 7120 Webinar Series

District 7120 has created this series of webinars so that every club can learn at a pace and time convenient to you and your members.  The webinars will also be recorded and available for viewing for at least 6 months.  You just won't be able to ask questions.

One thing I would like to mention is that while this is the Rotary District 7120 Webinar Series and is targeted specifically to Rotary Clubs, the webinars will be open to everyone.  So if you have a Rotarian prospect and think she or he might benefit from the information, please invite them to participate.  I am hopeful that we can also use the webinars as a recruiting tool.  These webinars will be free for everyone.

Interact Project at District Assembly

Interactors are doing a District Interact project and would like the help of Rotarians.  We are collecting small size tooth paste, tooth brushes, shampoos, conditioners, soap, washcloths, combs and brushes to make toiletry bags to be given to a women's shelter or kids in crisis (foster care).  These bags will be assembled at the District Assembly.  Our goal is 100 bags.  If your club could help collect these items and send them to the District Assembly or contact Mary Anne Cooper, District Chair at mcooper2@stny.rr.com.
