The Business Cooperative Accelerator
and Downtown Innovation Zone

Join us Tuesday, January 13th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be James Senall, President of High Tech Rochester (HTR) and is also the Managing Director of the Rochester Angel Network.

HTR is leading a new regional council priority project aimed at increasing the numbers and success rates of local startup companies, through better coordination of local resources, and through the creation of a new downtown innovation center, which was recently announced by the Governor.

President Tracy's Journal

Happy 2015 to all my Rotarians and your families!

We had a fantastic turnout (120 people!) for our Economic Outlook Panel luncheon this past Tuesday at the JAFRRCC.  Thank you to Don Alhart for acting as our emcee and Program Committee member Barb Cutrona for putting this new panel together.

As you may have read in the paper (thank you Tim Cook for AGAIN getting us media coverage for a great luncheon!), Matt Hurlbutt, Executive Vice President at GRE, Dr. Joe Stefko, President and CEO of CGR and Don Jeffries President of VisitRochester had a very realistic and pointed discussion on our strengths, challenges and where this community can go in 2015 through the perspective of each organization. We are so very fortunate to have turned around, as best we could, given the tough economic times we have endured  the past eight years.

The panelists also discussed how critical it is to engage our area college graduates to keep as much brain trust as we can in our area. We do, however, see folks who move away often coming back to the area when it is time to raise a family, as our quality of life is so rich.

It was also brought to our attention that we, apparently, have a few "whiners" in our area (Haha!). Meaning if we want businesses and people to move into our area we need to stop being so critical of ourselves, there is a lot to be had in this region and we need to embrace it instead of "whining" about it!

I hope you don't miss our next breakfast meeting, next Tuesday at the Rotary Offices. We will hear from fellow Rotarian Cheryl Nelan about "Business Security - Avoiding the Deadliest Data Mistakes".

Lastly, be sure to keep an eye out for information about our upcoming fellowship events. The committee has put some great events together for us over the next couple of months and I hope to see many of you there!

Have a great week.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

The Membership Committee's mission is to grow and sustain the Rochester Rotary Membership. We accomplish this by identifying and recruiting a diverse group of qualified new members and support their initial involvement in the Club.

Each year our Club has a goal to bring in 35 new and dynamic members. At present we have 339 members of our club. Under the leadership of Mary Lewis Consler the committee engaged in a strategic planning process that will help the committee be even more proactive. The strategic plan has a number of sub committees that are listed below:

Under Represented - we have a number of member categories that could use increases.   A good example is military.

Marketing Collaboration - working with our marketing committee this sub group will assist with additional materials that will help with recruitment.

Corporate Membership - this has been a goal for a long time and we will be working directly with each of the larger corporations in this region on corporate memberships. Each new person must pass our membership criteria.

Small Business - this is a specific effort to attract new members that are business owners.

Internal Communications - this effort will see the Membership Committee reaching directly out to other members of our club for  referrals.

You will hear more about these initiatives over the course of the new-year. The Membership Committee is excited about the formation of the Engagement Committee lead by Steve Hoitt.

To recommend a new member please contact Scott Rasmussen at 273-5932.
