Annual Holiday Luncheon

Join us Tuesday, December 16th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center for our annual Holiday Luncheon.  Our musical entertainment will be provided by the Rochester Oratorio Society.

President Tracy's Journal

Thank you to the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation for partnering with Rochester Rotary for the annual Vision Future luncheon. This is a partnership we are honored to have.  We heard from County Executive Maggie Brooks and City Mayor Lovely Warren on their economic development observations and priorities for the upcoming year.

In addition we took time to honor to greats Rochester lost this past year - Larry Glazer and Joe Floreano. I was honored to make the presentation as we honored Joe. Our community is strong because of the work these did in downtown and I think I speak for many of us that we are honored to help carry on the work and projects that they both believed in so much.

As we start to look forward to next week and the busy few holiday weeks ahead of us we are hoping you will join us for a few more functions before the year is out!

On Tuesday (12/16) we will again welcome the Rochester Oratorio Society for our annual holiday luncheon at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Then Thursday (12/18) we hope to see you all at the 20th Anniversary of the Rochester Rotary Holiday Gala Pops concert at Kodak Hall. Please remember if you have not secured your tickets to contact the Box Office!

The Friendship Committee needs your help!

Do you know of any Rotarians who may be  ill?

One of the functions of the Friendship Committee is to visit Rotarians who are confined to their home, the hospital, a rehab unit or nursing home due to a sustained illness.  We have found that they really appreciate a visit.  But we need your help.  We can only make contact with those Rotarians who have been brought to our attention.  So, if you hear about someone who should be seen, please don't assume we know.

Please call Myrna at 546-7435 x201 to convey the information.

Thank you

International Service Committee Projects

The Rochester Rotary International Service Committee is now involved with service projects as well as exchange programs.  One project currently being funded provides post secondary school scholarships for Malawi students from the Malawi Children's Village (MCV).  Training is provided in Malawi in fields such as carpentry, plumbing, auto mechanics, electrical, nutrition, rural and community development, medical, computer science etc.  The photo shows three of the Malawi students with Bob and Cindy Hunt (Fairport Rotarians) and the Director of MCV Felix Chirombo.

A second project which we are funding (along with matching district funds) is a University of Rochester Engineers Without Borders (UREWB) initiative to provide sustainable potable water to a local school in the Dominican Republic.  Here are Rochester Rotarians with UREWB students at the recent Eastern Cities Dinner.

For more information on the UR EWB Don Juan Project please go to https://ssl.charityweb.net/ewbusa/pfp/urewbdonjuandr.htm.

Money to fund projects of this kind comes in part from donations to the Jim Morgan Fund for birthdays, memorials and honorariums.  Additional international service projects partnering with other organizations such as InterVol and ShelterBox USA, for example, are being planned.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

The Membership Committee's mission is to grow and sustain the Rochester Rotary Membership. We accomplish this by identifying and recruiting a diverse group of qualified new members and support their initial involvement in the Club.

Each year our Club has a goal to bring in 35 new and dynamic members. At present we have 339 members of our club. Under the leadership of Mary Lewis Consler the committee engaged in a strategic planning process that will help the committee be even more proactive. The strategic plan has a number of sub committees that are listed below:

Under Represented - we have a number of member categories that could use increases.   A good example is military.

Marketing Collaboration - working with our marketing committee this sub group will assist with additional materials that will help with recruitment.

Corporate Membership - this has been a goal for a long time and we will be working directly with each of the larger corporations in this region on corporate memberships. Each new person must pass our membership criteria.

Small Business - this is a specific effort to attract new members that are business owners.

Internal Communications - this effort will see the Membership Committee reaching directly out to other members of our club for  referrals.

You will hear more about these initiatives over the course of the new-year. The Membership Committee is excited about the formation of the Engagement Committee lead by Steve Hoitt.

To recommend a new member please contact Scott Rasmussen at 273-5932.
