No Tuesday Meeting

Join us Monday, November 24th as we kick start the holiday season!  What better way to start the season than with food,   fun and friendship.  We are again, this year, asking attendees to bring an item(s) to donate to Foodlink. We will take the donation delivery to Foodlink the day after our event just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

It will start at 4:30 p.m. at the Rotary Office.  We will provide food and drink so we just ask if you can RSVP for us to plan accordingly to Brandi at 546-7435 x210 or [email protected].

President Tracy's Journal

Wednesday night's event with Rochester Rotary, Rochester Business Alliance and VisitRochester was enjoyed by over 200 people who received a first look at the new RTS Transit Center.   Thank you to the College at Brockport for hosting the group at the downtown Metro Campus for networking after the tour.

Join us at our Breakfast Meeting on Tuesday, December 2nd at 8:00 a.m. in the Rotary Office where our speaker will be District Governor Scott MacDonell.  District Governor MacDonell will share with us the message of RI President and ways to get involved in Rotary International projects.  We hope you will join us to learn more about Rotary International and the 2014-15 theme "Light Up Rotary".

I am excited to share photos of the Sunshine Campus treehouse project that is underway.  The Rochester Amerks joined the work detail at the Sunshine Campus this week and helped us for a day building our treehouse.

Calling All Bell Ringers!

We are excited to continue our tradition this year of assisting in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.  The Rochester Rotary Club has agreed to provide bell ringers for outdoor kettle entrance's at Eastview Mall on Wednesday, December 3rd from 5:00-9:00 p.m.

Our volunteers will serve a 2-hour shift at each kettle.

 Shifts:

#1 -  4:45-6:45 p.m.

#2 - 6:45-8:45 p.m.

We would like to form teams of four or six per kettle per shift to allow for inside mall "warming breaks" as needed.  Family members and friends are welcome to join us.  This is a wonderful way to share in the spirit of the holiday season with your fellow Rotarians, family and friends!

Please email or call Brandi Koch at [email protected] or 546-7435 x210 to sign up for a shift by Wednesday, November 26th so that we can appropriately organize our teams.

We promise to do our best to fulfill your preferred shift request.
Planned Giving Committee

The Rochester Rotary Charitable Trusts will be starting a Planned Giving Committee and would love to invite you to join us on Tuesday, December 4th at 8:30 a.m. in the Rochester Rotary office.  We are looking for members who are interested in assisting with sharing the message of planned giving options available for the Sunshine Campus and other charitable activities of the Rochester Rotary Charitable Trusts, Inc. (i.e School #8 Scholarship, Adopt A School Program, etc.).  Please email Myrna at [email protected] if you are interested in joining the committee.

Welcome Pam Reinhardt

Please welcome out new Accounting Manager Pam Reinhardt. We are excited to welcome her to our team here in the Rotary Office!

Below is an introduction from Pam:

I have lived most of my life in Henrietta, attending Rush Henrietta Schools and Monroe Community College. I am married with 2 sons, one who is married with a son. I have always been an active participant in the community. I worked part time while my children were in school, so I could participate in activities that they were involved in. I was an active school volunteer, president of the PTA at the elementary and high school. I have coached soccer, been active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, as a merit badge counselor and the treasurer of the troop.

I was involved in the volunteer group that reopened the Scottsville Ice Arena, when the owner was no longer able to operate it. I was treasurer of the Empire Hockey Association Board. As you can see, I have been active in many areas!

My current, and most ambitious undertaking yet is as a member of the Rush Henrietta School Board. I serve on a number of sub committees, such as the audit committee and space committee, and I have been active in the legislative committee of the Monroe County School Boards. I have served on the board since 2003. I have always felt it was important for me to give back to my community.

My husband and I have camped for over 30 years, and recently purchased a cottage on Lake Pleasant, in St Lawrence County. We like to spend our weekends on the lake, with family and friends.

Congratulations Seth Sykes!

Seth Sykes has been promoted to the Facilities Manager at our Sunshine Campus.  Seth has worked at Rotary in many different capacities over the years.   He started as Program Staff during our summer camping seasons before joining the Facilities Staff in 2009 as our Assistant Manager. Seth works very hard to make sure our facility is looking great running well no matter the time of year!  Congratulations Seth!

International Service Committee Projects

The Rochester Rotary International Service Committee is now involved with service projects as well as exchange programs.  One project currently being funded provides post secondary school scholarships for Malawi students from the Malawi Children's Village (MCV).  Training is provided in Malawi in fields such as carpentry, plumbing, auto mechanics, electrical, nutrition, rural and community development, medical, computer science etc.  The photo shows three of the Malawi students with Bob and Cindy Hunt (Fairport Rotarians) and the Director of MCV Felix Chirombo.

A second project which we are funding (along with matching district funds) is a University of Rochester Engineers Without Borders (UREWB) initiative to provide sustainable potable water to a local school in the Dominican Republic.  Here are Rochester Rotarians with UREWB students at the recent Eastern Cities Dinner.

For more information on the UR EWB Don Juan Project please go to https://ssl.charityweb.net/ewbusa/pfp/urewbdonjuandr.htm.

Money to fund projects of this kind comes in part from donations to the Jim Morgan Fund for birthdays, memorials and honorariums.  Additional international service projects partnering with other organizations such as InterVol and ShelterBox USA, for example, are being planned.

The Friendship Committee needs your help!

Do you know of any Rotarians who may be  ill?

One of the functions of the Friendship Committee is to visit Rotarians who are confined to their home, the hospital, a rehab unit or nursing home due to a sustained illness.  We have found that they really appreciate a visit.  But we need your help.  We can only make contact with those Rotarians who have been brought to our attention.  So, if you hear about someone who should be seen, please don't assume we know.

Please call Myrna at 546-7435 x201 to convey the information.

Thank you

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

The Membership Committee's mission is to grow and sustain the Rochester Rotary Membership. We accomplish this by identifying and recruiting a diverse group of qualified new members and support their initial involvement in the Club.

Each year our Club has a goal to bring in 35 new and dynamic members. At present we have 339 members of our club. Under the leadership of Mary Lewis Consler the committee engaged in a strategic planning process that will help the committee be even more proactive. The strategic plan has a number of sub committees that are listed below:

Under Represented - we have a number of member categories that could use increases.   A good example is military.

Marketing Collaboration - working with our marketing committee this sub group will assist with additional materials that will help with recruitment.

Corporate Membership - this has been a goal for a long time and we will be working directly with each of the larger corporations in this region on corporate memberships. Each new person must pass our membership criteria.

Small Business - this is a specific effort to attract new members that are business owners.

Internal Communications - this effort will see the Membership Committee reaching directly out to other members of our club for  referrals.

You will hear more about these initiatives over the course of the new-year. The Membership Committee is excited about the formation of the Engagement Committee lead by Steve Hoitt.

To recommend a new member please contact Scott Rasmussen at 273-5932.
