President Tracy's Journal

Lou Gramm and Scott Pitoniak WOW WEE - what a great presentation!

"Pot Scrubbing" ... I shared this story with members and guests on Tuesday - long story short I had a very different idea of the words to "Hot Blooded" when I was a teenager. I must admit I had a great time hosting Lou and Scott at our lunch.

Scott talked to us about why he wanted to write a book about Lou Gramm.  Scott shared that he admired the story of a hometown youth who made it big, how he faced life's struggles - some very difficult ones with addiction - and made the powerful choice to overcome and eventually journey back home to Rochester.

Lou shared good stories about his teenage years growing up in Gates. He told us the stories of how is father was into music and had his own band, how he came up with the name for Foreigner's song "Double Vision", his trip to see the Rolling Stones at the War Memorial as a teenager and being grounded for it!

He also spoke of hardships he endured while on the road. Traveling with the band made it difficult to see his young family, he overcame drugs, working hard to stay on top in fame and seeing the light back to Rochester and what a bright decision that was to return.

I enjoyed Lou and Scott's company. They were very gracious in signing books and posing for pictures with our member's before and after our meeting.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! Our membership survey indicated that many of you enjoyed attending the breakfast meetings. Join us Tuesday, November 4th  at the Rotary Office to hear Rochester Rotary member Sitima Fowler present, "Lessons in Innovation from the Cyber Criminal Underground and How You Can Protect Yourself".  Please rsvp to Brandi at 546-7435 x210 or brandi@rochesterrotary.org.

Next week we are very excited to host a debate with Senator Ted O'Brien and Rich Funke. This will be a great luncheon - please take this opportunity to invite guests and potential new members.

Tootsie Roll Bright Spot

Our most recent Tootsie Roll Bright Spot goes to Ray Isaac for his help with the Pilon House Project in Hilton.  Susanne Pilon was a teacher in the Hilton school system until she was recently forced to retire due to complication from a disease she is battling call  ed familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Her four children have also been diagnosed with the same disease. She lives with her 95 year old father, foster daughter, adopted daughter, and her Vietnam veteran husband. The Pilons have always given back to anyone in need. Several fellow teachers spear headed a community project that gelled when Home Depot choose the Pilon house for a home makeover. The project required more than was budgeted so the committee reached out to others in the community.

Ray Isaac was asked if he would take a look at the heating and hot water situation. Rays team got involved completely replacing everything in need and ran heat to rooms in the 150 year old home that were freezing in the winter. The family will be warm this winter thanks to the generosity of Ray and his team.  Paying it forward...service above self....Tootsie Roll Bright Spot!Congratulations Ray!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Rotarian Nicole Calcagni who welcomed baby girl Louisa Celia on September 23rd she weighed 6.4lbs.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

The Membership Committee's mission is to grow and sustain the Rochester Rotary Membership. We accomplish this by identifying and recruiting a diverse group of qualified new members and support their initial involvement in the Club.

Each year our Club has a goal to bring in 35 new and dynamic members. At present we have 339 members of our club. Under the leadership of Mary Lewis Consler the committee engaged in a strategic planning process that will help the committee be even more proactive. The strategic plan has a number of sub committees that are listed below:

Under Represented - we have a number of member categories that could use increases.   A good example is military.

Marketing Collaboration - working with our marketing committee this sub group will assist with additional materials that will help with recruitment.

Corporate Membership - this has been a goal for a long time and we will be working directly with each of the larger corporations in this region on corporate memberships. Each new person must pass our membership criteria.

Small Business - this is a specific effort to attract new members that are business owners.

Internal Communications - this effort will see the Membership Committee reaching directly out to other members of our club for  referrals.

You will hear more about these initiatives over the course of the new-year. The Membership Committee is excited about the formation of the Engagement Committee lead by Steve Hoitt.

To recommend a new member please contact Scott Rasmussen at 273-5932.
