College Town

Join us Tuesday, October 7th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speakers will be Ronald J. Paprocki, Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance and Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at the University of Rochester and Randy Ruttenberg, founding principal of Fairmount Properties.

College Town is an exciting new mixed-use, close-knit district providing the Rochester community, University of Rochester and University of Rochester Medical Center students, faculty and staff a one-of-a-kind, vibrant place to live, learn, dine, shop, work and play.

President Tracy's Journal

This Tuesday we read a memorial and had a moment of silence for our very dear friend, Joseph A. Floreano read by Past District Governor, Past Club President but most importantly Joe's dear friend, Don Alhart. Joe's funeral service will be held tomorrow (10/3) at Asbury First Methodist starting at 11am. The services are also available for live streaming through www.asburyfirst.org.
_______________

Tuesday's guest speaker was Dr. Ruth Scott her presentation was titled "Fixing the Hole in the Bucket: Looking at Community Solutions". We learned that Dr. Scott was the first African American woman to sit on city council and was elected its president in 1986. A thread throughout Dr. Scott's presentation was that she was not afraid to ask questions, tough at times but she knew what was necessary to begin the process of change and wasn't afraid of the answers - even if they didn't favor her end goal.  She continued through her presentation to encourage business leaders to ask those questions and help to lead in the change our community needs to be full again.

Thank you to Doug Cook and Lisa Norwood for their announcement about the upcoming MILT Matthews program and our visiting District Governors Elect - please look to the article below if you are interested in volunteering.

Lastly, thank you to Wolfgang Pfizenmaier for the information about the upcoming Tree Cutting/Work Day out at the Sunshine Campus. This project needs to get underway as we prepare for the ground breaking for the Treehouse project. Look to the article below for more details.

I look forward to seeing you all next week as we get an update on "College Town".

The Friendship Committee needs your help!

Do you know of any Rotarians who may be  ill?

One of the functions of the Friendship Committee is to visit Rotarians who are confined to their home, the hospital, a rehab unit or nursing home due to a sustained illness.  We have found that they really appreciate a visit.  But we need your help.  We can only make contact with those Rotarians who have been brought to our attention.  So, if you hear about someone who should be seen, please don't assume we know.

Please call Myrna at 546-7435 x201 to convey the information.

Thank you.

Hosting a Visiting District Governor Elect

We need a few volunteers to host a Governor Elect and spouse that will be visiting our area Jan. 9-17, 2015. The Governors Elect are from all over the world and will be visiting Rochester as part of the Milt Matthews Governor Elect Hospitality Visit that has occurred here for the past 45 years. Our role will be to host our guests in the latter half of their visit form Jan. 13-17, along with district-wide gathering on Jan. 11th. More information and a host application is provided at http://clubs.rotary7120.org/international/MMGE-Hospitality.htm. Our Club already has two volunteers to host these international Rotarians, 2-3 additional hosts are needed. For those unable to host for the entire period of Jan. 13-17, you can still help during some of those day excursions. If interested, please contact Jeff Bartkoski, VP International at jbartkoski@mercyflightcentral.org or office phone: 396-0584.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

The Membership Committee's mission is to grow and sustain the Rochester Rotary Membership. We accomplish this by identifying and recruiting a diverse group of qualified new members and support their initial involvement in the Club.

Each year our Club has a goal to bring in 35 new and dynamic members. At present we have 339 members of our club. Under the leadership of Mary Lewis Consler the committee engaged in a strategic planning process that will help the committee be even more proactive. The strategic plan has a number of sub committees that are listed below:

Under Represented - we have a number of member categories that could use increases.   A good example is military.

Marketing Collaboration - working with our marketing committee this sub group will assist with additional materials that will help with recruitment.

Corporate Membership - this has been a goal for a long time and we will be working directly with each of the larger corporations in this region on corporate memberships. Each new person must pass our membership criteria.

Small Business - this is a specific effort to attract new members that are business owners.

Internal Communications - this effort will see the Membership Committee reaching directly out to other members of our club for  referrals.

You will hear more about these initiatives over the course of the new-year. The Membership Committee is excited about the formation of the Engagement Committee lead by Steve Hoitt.

To recommend a new member please contact Mary Lewis Consler at 310-7113 or Scott Rasmussen at 273-5932.
