Forensic Science Today:
A Greater Responsibility

Join us Tuesday, August 19th at Locust Hill Country Club where our guest speaker will be John Clark from Monroe County Crime Lab.

After working as a Firearms and Toolmark Examiner for the Monroe County Crime Laboratory for 5 1/2 years John was chosen to lead the Firearms Section of the Crime Laboratory which he did for for nearly 9 years before being promoted to the position of Crime Laboratory Administrator which is traditionally referred to as "Lab Director". John has a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Forensic Science as well as a Master of Public Administration degree from S.U.N.Y. Brockport. He resides in Irondequoit with his wife Michelle and two sons.

President Tracy's Journal

Don Jeffries was our guest speaker this week enlightening the Club about the value of tourism in our area and how members may be able to help in bringing their meeting or conferences to our region.  He discussed local institutions and even our own Scott Anthony (KUDOS Scott) that have assisted in securing a meeting or convention for the Riverside Convention Center area.  Don was extremely informative about funding, the visitors associations mission and future endeavors of Visit Rochester.

Our Tree House is still generating excitement as we had a parent of a camper offer his carpentry services to assist with the build when B'fer comes to town!  The other wonderful thing that happened to me before lunch I was speaking to a prospective member that has come over the last several weeks and he was saying that he and his wife had guests for dinner and he happened to mention the Sunshine Camp and low and behold one of his guests was very familiar with the camp through personal experience.  Another ray of light that warms your heart to be apart of Rotary!

Our very own John Bartholomew was this week's "Bright Spot" as he was honored by RIT as an outstanding alumnus (my Alma Mater) he graciously offered $100.

Thank you all for all you do.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

The Membership Committee's mission is to grow and sustain the Rochester Rotary Membership. We accomplish this by identifying and recruiting a diverse group of qualified new members and support their initial involvement in the Club.

Each year our Club has a goal to bring in 35 new and dynamic members. At present we have 339 members of our club. Under the leadership of Mary Lewis Consler the committee engaged in a strategic planning process that will help the committee be even more proactive. The strategic plan has a number of sub committees that are listed below:

Under Represented - we have a number of member categories that could use increases.   A good example is military.

Marketing Collaboration - working with our marketing committee this sub group will assist with additional materials that will help with recruitment.

Corporate Membership - this has been a goal for a long time and we will be working directly with each of the larger corporations in this region on corporate memberships. Each new person must pass our membership criteria.

Small Business - this is a specific effort to attract new members that are business owners.

Internal Communications - this effort will see the Membership Committee reaching directly out to other members of our club for  referrals.

You will hear more about these initiatives over the course of the new-year. The Membership Committee is excited about the formation of the Engagement Committee lead by Steve Hoitt.

To recommend a new member please contact Mary Lewis Consler at 310-7113 or Scott Rasmussen at 273-5932.

DISTRICT 7120 GOLF TOURNAMENT

   Friday Sept. 5th, 2014

Tee off at 1 PM - Registration starts at Noon

Scramble Format

Island Oaks Course at the Lima Country Club in Lima, NY

Dear Golfers,

The Annual District 7120 Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Lima Country Club's Island Oaks Course.   Please plan to join us for a fun-filled afternoon of golf and fellowship beginning at Noon.

This year, the event will include new features- "Best Dressed" Team and "Putting" Contests, in addition to the traditional Long Drive and Nearest to the Pin contests. For the competitive golfers, there are also prizes for the First Place-Men; First Place-Ladies and First Place-Mixed team.

Once again, DG Scott has agreed to allocate one Paul Harris Fellow to be drawn from the names of all clubs with at least four participating golfers.   The club drawn can select a recipient and present this Paul Harris Fellow at a later date.

Participants need not be Rotarians.   In fact, this is a great way to introduce someone to the family of Rotary so invite a prospective member, friend or family member in your group.  If your club cannot fill a foursome, we will pair up golfers with others in need of teammates.

We ask that each club, whether or not participating, consider donating a raffle item with an approximate value of $25.  No time to shop? You may send to Gary Reilly a monetary donation of $25 by no later than August 25, 2014 (check made payable to District 7120 Golf Tournament) and he will do the shopping for you. For those attending, bring your Raffle item on the day of the event.

The cost per golfer is $80 which will include golf, cart and dinner. Also, your family members and friends may join us for dinner only at $25 each. A registration form accompanies this letter (which is attached to this message) and is posted on the District website.   The deadline for registration and payment is August 25, 2014.

If you have any questions, please contact Gary Reilly at 585-425-4812 or e-mail him at gmreilly@frontiernet.net.

Thank you for your past and continued support and participation.  We look forward to a great day of golf on September 5, 2014.
