"The Third Wind"

Join us Tuesday, August 5th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be Larry Glazer, CEO and Managing Partner of Buckingham Properties.

Larry co-founded Buckingham Properties in 1970, after earning a

Master's degree in Finance in 1969 from Columbia University, Larry sharpened his financial and analytical skills by creating and managing his own private hedge fund.  In 1971, Larry entered the private manufacturing industry and quickly became the CEO of Great Lakes Press, a major Rochester-based printing company. This experience provided Larry a first-hand understanding of the needs and concerns of the business owners who have become the core of Buckingham's tenant-base.

Larry will be telling us the evolutionary story of Midtown, ending with their plans to transform the area into a unified live-work-play destination.

President Tracy's Journal

This week's Rotary meeting was offsite at The Laboratory for Laser Energetic. We had roughly 55 people for the tour. Thank you to Dr. Robert McCrory who gave a great 10 min presentation on the LLE that celebrated its 40th Birthday in 2011. The OMEGA Laser system and the EP laser systems are of high standing within the inertial fusion and high-energy -density physics communities that support national missions. These lasers make it possible to create matter under extremely high pressure in the lab.

Education is the core mission of the lab's graduate and undergraduate students who are working on studies at the lab.  This was a fantastic up close and personal look at what goes on there day to day.

Thank you to Bob and his staff for having us and giving such an informative look at this very prominent part of the University's research mission.

This week we also had our Peter's Pals Putt Putt - unfortunately the rain/thunder washed out actual golfing but the sun did, eventually, go on to shine with a carnival, DJ, prizes and more! A BIG thank you to our members that were out there!

Ice Cream social a big hit!

Tuesday we have Larry Glaser here at the RRCC and my reception at The Penthouse, One East Ave. on Thursday - I hope to see you all there...Valet Parking available!

Thank you have a great weekend!

What's happening at the Sunshine Campus

Today we wrap up week two of Sunshine Camp and it has been an AMAZING week!

Campers have had a great time from boating, fishing and zip lining to the Peter's Pals Putt Putt - turned carnival and ice cream social due to the weather. Thank you to all of our Rotarians who came out to camp despite the weather.

HUGE thank you to our awesome camp staff from the past two weeks - the Sunshine Camp program has served over 200 kids free of charge in the past two weeks thanks to our Rotarians and generous community supporters.

Next week we welcome our partner agency Heritage Christian Services.

5th Annual Peter D. Formicola Sunshine Camp Golf Invitational

We hope you can join us to support our annual golf tournament at the Sunshine Campus on Monday, August 25th at Midvale Country Club.

To make our tournament a success we are looking for some help from you! We recognize not all companies or individuals can make monetary donations to the event so we also would like to let you know the committee in looking for additional items for our silent auction - items should be valued over $100 and some ideas are (but are not restricted to) sports tickets, show tickets, gift baskets, or gift cards.

If you are able to donate any items or have questions about the tournament or sponsorships please contact Heather Rossi in the Rotary Office at 585-546-7435 x204 or hrossi@rochesterrotary.org

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

The Membership Committee's mission is to grow and sustain the Rochester Rotary Membership. We accomplish this by identifying and recruiting a diverse group of qualified new members and support their initial involvement in the Club.

Each year our Club has a goal to bring in 35 new and dynamic members. At present we have 339 members of our club. Under the leadership of Mary Lewis Consler the committee engaged in a strategic planning process that will help the committee be even more proactive. The strategic plan has a number of sub committees that are listed below:

Under Represented - we have a number of member categories that could use increases.   A good example is military.

Marketing Collaboration - working with our marketing committee this sub group will assist with additional materials that will help with recruitment.

Corporate Membership - this has been a goal for a long time and we will be working directly with each of the larger corporations in this region on corporate memberships. Each new person must pass our membership criteria.

Small Business - this is a specific effort to attract new members that are business owners.

Internal Communications - this effort will see the Membership Committee reaching directly out to other members of our club for

referrals.

You will hear more about these initiatives over the course of the new-year. The Membership Committee is excited about the formation of the Engagement Committee lead by Steve Hoitt.

To recommend a new member please contact Mary Lewis Consler at 310-7113 or Scott Rasmussen at 273-5932.

What is going on in the district?

Welcome to the new Rotary Year, and our year to Light Up Rotary. One of the ways you can Light Up Rotary is to join us for the Annual Rotary Day at the Rochester Red Wings. This year's event will be held on Saturday August 16th. The game will be the Rochester Red Wings vs. Syracuse Chiefs.

This is a great opportunity to have a fun outing with both your club and the district. One dollar of every ticket sold will benefit Literacy.
