The Fourteenth Annual Henry H. Jensen Memorial Award was presented to Captain Wil Johnson at our weekly meeting this week.  Captain Johnson has been with the Rochester Police Department for 32 years, and was recognized by his colleagues as an "unsung hero."  Captain Johnson has upheld the highest traditions, performance, and ethical standards of the RPD with great commitment, compassion, courage, character, distinction and integrity.  It was an honor for Rochester Rotary to recognize Captain Johnson, along with all members of law enforcement.  Special thanks to Commander Tim List, a fellow Rochester Rotarian, who nominated Captain Johnson for the award, and who spoke at the luncheon.

Rochester Red Wings:  I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday as the Rochester Rotary Club attends a day game of the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field.  The weather forecast is perfect calling for temperatures in the mid 70's and no more rain.

Flooding:  The Rotary Club of Penn Yan is collecting funds to assist those who have been severely affected by flooding this week.  If you would like to join me in donating to this fund, you may send a check to the Rotary Club of Penn Yan, P.O. Box 512, Penn Yan, New York 14527.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!

We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?

Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.

The proposal process is easy:

  • Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
  • A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
  • The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.

Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:

  • Advertising & Public Relations
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Business Owners
  • Clergy, Religious
  • Commercial Sales
  • Computers, Data Processing
  • Corporate Executives
  • Entertainment & Sports
  • Hotel/Travel
  • Human Resources
  • Military
  • Technology
  • Transportation
  • Utilities

"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference!

What is going on in the district?

Dear All Rotarians,

I'm certain you have heard about the disaster in Penn Yan. I received the message below from President Diane Krans asking for all of our help. Please consider making a donation to help all of the people and businesses that were damaged by the storm on Wednesday.

Bill Redden
District 7120 web administrator

Jeff and I have had many calls from our Rotary friends offering to help those who suffered losses during this week's flood.  The Penn Yan Rotary Club has established a savings account at Lyons National Bank in Penn Yan where funds can be collected to assist those who have lost much and have the least ability to get back on their feet after this disaster.

As a marvelous expression of youth commitment, the baseball team helped one individual clean out her basement, among those helping was our YEX student, Daan.   How proud we are of him and his character.

Should you individually or as a club like to donate to this fund, send checks to the Rotary Club of Penn Yan, P.O. Box 512, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Thank you for all that you continue to do in the name of Service above Self.

Yours in Rotary,

Diane

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are fast approaching the end of another Rotary year. The very successful District Conference has just ended and Governor Ellen and the Waterloo Club can take a chance to relax after all of their hard work. With the District Change Over Dinner  less than 2 months away all of us should be making sure each of our Clubs send one or two representatives to this dinner. All of the Club Presidents, and most of the members, know that if you asked Governor Ellen to attend any of your Club's service or fund raising projects she did every. She was there for inductions of new members or to recognize someone with a Paul Harris Fellowship. To show our thanks for all of her efforts it is up to you to sign up for this dinner.

Please make sure you download the attachment below and send in your registration and check quickly so we see if we can set a record for people attending the Change Over Dinner that is being held on Monday June 30th at the Bristol Harbor Resort. The open cash bar will start at 5:30 PM with the dinner to start at 6:30 PM.
