Teddy Roosevelt to address Rochester Rotary

Join us Tuesday, May 6th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center where the 26th President of the United States - Teddy Roosevelt - will be our guest speaker.  Teddy Roosevelt comes alive through Joe Wiegand, a Rotarian from Tennessee.

Joe Wiegand is regarded as the nation's premiere reprisor of Theodore Roosevelt.  Prior to becoming Teddy Roosevelt, Joe had a twenty-five year career in politics and public policy in his native Illinois.

In addition, DG Ellen Hughes will present the Rotary Foundation's highest service recognition award to PDG and Past Club President Don Alhart.  This is going to be a wonderful meeting, we do not want you to miss it.  We anticipate a large turnout for this meeting, RSVP to Brandi in the Rotary Office at brandi@rochesterrotary.org or 546-7435 x210.

2014 Law Day
Henry H. Jensen Memorial Award

Join us Monday, May 12th for the 14th Annual Law Day luncheon, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center and presentation of the Henry H. Jensen Memorial Award to one of Rochester Police Department's "Unsung Heros" -- Captain Wilson Johnson.

Chief of Police for the Rochester Police Department Michael L. Ciminelli will be our keynote speaker for the awards luncheon.

Captain Wilson has been with the Rochester Police Department for 32 years. The Rochester Police Department has provided Wil with many opportunities to connect personally and professionally with his police family along with developing long lasting and meaningful relationships within the community. Wil can often be found attending community meetings, guiding and mentoring co-workers, participating in clean sweep activities and working to assist populations that are underserved, homeless or victims of crime simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is known to be an excellent listener and a patient and tireless advocate.  Wil obtained his Master's Degree in Pastoral Studies from St. Bernard's School of Theology and Ministry and was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Rochester.

Reservations are needed as this is a sit down luncheon.  RSVP to Brandi Koch in the Rotary Office at 546-7435 x210 or  brandi@rochesterrotary.org.

Rotary Work Day was a Great Success!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Rotary Work Day.  It was a great success and the Sunshine Campus looks amazing.

We had more than 150 community volunteers who participated in Cleanup Day at the Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus. Rotarians from Rochester and across Monroe County, Girl Scouts, St. John Fisher students, Isaac Heating employees and other supporters completed a variety of projects - such as raking, power washing, painting, mulching and more - to get the facility ready for the camping season.

A special thank you to Wolfgang Pfizenmaier and Peter Sarratori for cooking a great lunch for all of us.

Take me out to the ball game!
Rochester Rotary is heading to the ball field!

We are taking our luncheon over to Frontier Field for lunch at the Nest and the Red Wings 1:05 p.m. ball game Tuesday, May 20th.

This will replace our Tuesday Luncheon that week.

Reservations will be needed for the game as we will take care of pre-pulling a group of tickets for our Rotarians.

The cost will be $20 per person and includes a great lunch and your ticket to the game.

Please RSVP to Heather in the Rotary Office at hrossi@rochesterrotary.org or 546-7435 x204.
B2B Happy Hour

Please RSVP for yourself and any guests to Brandi (brandi@rochesterrotary.org or 546-7435 x210) so we can provide an approximate head count to the Distillery.

Thank you to Julie St. Germaine and Signs Now for sponsoring the tastings!

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!

We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?

Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.

The proposal process is easy:

  • Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
  • A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
  • The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.

Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:

  • Advertising & Public Relations
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Business Owners
  • Clergy, Religious
  • Commercial Sales
  • Computers, Data Processing
  • Corporate Executives
  • Entertainment & Sports
  • Hotel/Travel
  • Human Resources
  • Military
  • Technology
  • Transportation
  • Utilities

"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference!
