News of YOUR Club
Where will I ever find someone who lets me do what I let me do... ...and still call it business?

Join us Tuesday, April 29th at Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be Kevin D. Flynn.  Kevin is one-third owner and partner in the marketing communications firm Martino Flynn, LLC, one of the fastest-growing firms in Rochester.  Martino Flynn has received numerous awards for excellence in creative and public relations. The firm employs more than 50 people.

Kevin has a great passion for hiking and mountaineering.  He is a two-time Adirondack 46er (someone who has climbed the 46 peaks that are 4,000 feet or higher) and has climbed and hiked throughout the Northeast.  Kevin will explain how he has incorporated two of his major passions - flying and high altitude mountaineering - into legitimate business practices.
President Bob's Journal

Bootleggers and Baptists.  That's what I'll remember most from Dean Bruce Yandle's keynote presentation on Earth Day and the passage of environmental protection legislation.  His classes at Clemson and George Mason Universities must have been very popular, because Bruce is an excellent lecturer.  Special thanks to Meredith Smith and her husband Clair for providing us the opportunity to present this program in celebration of Earth Day.

We are moving the location of the monthly breakfast meetings to the "new" Wegmans on East Avenue.  A much better breakfast buffet will be served without any change in price.  We will be meeting in a private room, called the Timber Room, in the café area of the store.  When you enter the store, the café area is to the right, and the Timber Room is to the left at the end of the café seating area.  At our meeting on Tuesday, May 6, Jayne Van Zile will present "Networking with a Purpose" as our professional development topic.  The Rotary topic will be new member engagement, and that discussion will be led by Stephen Hoitt.

The members of the Friendship Committee chaired by Carl Gerard and Bob Williams quietly look after and assist fellow Rochester Rotarians, who may be ill or suffering other difficulty.  The committee meets every month.  Its members send cards, visit Rotarians, and provide rides to our weekly meetings and other events.  For example, Paul Callaway regularly visits Bob Smith at the Highlands at Brighton nursing home.  Bob suffered a stroke and is paralyzed on one side, but his mind is sharp, and he enjoys his visits by Paul.  Thank you to all the members of the Friendship Committee, who do a wonderful service caring for our own fellow Rochester Rotarians.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's
"PLUS ONE" Campaign!

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!

We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?

Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.

The proposal process is easy:

  • Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
  • A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
  • The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.

Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:

  • Advertising & Public Relations
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Business Owners
  • Clergy, Religious
  • Commercial Sales
  • Computers, Data Processing
  • Corporate Executives
  • Entertainment & Sports
  • Hotel/Travel
  • Human Resources
  • Military
  • Technology
  • Transportation
  • Utilities

"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference!
