Education Program Series:  Our Tuesday luncheon speaker series on the future of city education is off to a great start.  Patty Malgieri, the Chief of Staff of the Rochester City School District, was the keynote speaker this week.  She discussed actions taken by the school district to improve city schools in five areas of priority.  She also fielded many interesting and probing questions from our members.

Elections:  Please join me in congratulating Mat Adams, Mark Armbruster, Jeff Bartkoski, Tim Cook, Beth Cross-Wilhelm, Donna Dedee, Jeff Leenhouts, Mary Lewis Consler, Nancy O'Brien, Kathleen Pringle, Julie St. Germaine, Meredith Smith, Patrick Stack, Don Twietmeyer and Mark Zawacki, who were elected to serve on the Board of Directors from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, while Tracy Armstrong is President of the Rochester Rotary Club.  Congratulations also to Peter Sarratori, who was elected to serve as President after Tracy from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016.  Thank you for your willingness to serve your fellow Rotarians and our community, and for the excellent leadership you already have provided, and will continue to provide.

Sunshine Kids Gala:  This year, the Gala produced by our Club with the Rochester Auto Dealers Association raised more than $100,000 for the Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus and other children's charities.  The success of this partnership has grown steadily over the past five years, and this is the first time we have broken the six-figure level.  Please attend the weekly meeting on Tuesday for the actual check presentation, and to congratulate the Gala committee, the R.A.D.A. and the Rotary office staff on this outstanding achievement.

Service Fellows:  The next group of Rochester Rotary Service Fellows will be awarded at the weekly luncheon meeting on April 1.  Rochester Rotarians are very generous with their time, talent and treasure.  For many decades, Rotary International has awarded the Paul Harris Fellow to Rotarians who donate $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation.  Our club is now recognizing the significant contributions of time and talent by Rochester Rotarians in furtherance of our club's missions to enrich the lives of our world neighbors, city youth and people with disabilities.  Please join me in honoring our fellow Rotarians on April 1.

Euchre Tournament

Sunday, March 2nd 46 Rotarians and friends gathered at the Rochester Rotary Offices training room for the annual Euchre tournament/party. The participants included Rotarians from the Rochester, Webster and Penfield clubs and among the invited guests, there were accountants, heating contractors, a painting contractor, a school teacher, a judge, financial advisors, an electrician, and a potpourri of other very interesting folks of varying occupations, eager to enjoy a few hours of fun while in pursuit of the prize money and of course as importantly, bragging rights. When the bell rang and the cards were dealt, the playing field was leveled and it was every man/person for themselves. When the 8 games were played out and the refreshments fairly well depleted, 6 players were in the winner's circle.

The prize money was awarded as follows;

The low score, with a score so low that it would not be" fair to all concerned" to print and the consolation prize of $10 was charitably given to  Rich Comins president of Webster Rotary. Fifth place and $25 went to Janet Wagner of the Webster Seniors Thursday euchre group. There was a two way tie for third and fourth place with a score of 79 shared by Jim Isaac and Jim Berringer who split $135 in prize money.

Second place winner Anne Swantz came In with a very good score of 81 for a $125 purse.      And the champ for the afternoon was, Don Tilkins with a high score of 83 and the grand prize of $175.   Of extra special note, after Don was handed his winnings, without any prompting or hesitation, he pulled out a $50 bill from the prize money and gave it to Master of Ceremonies Greg Kausch for the Rotary Sunshine Camp. Very, very special thanks go out to Don for his generosity!

As the clich goes "And a good time was had by all"

We'd love to have you join us next time.

Respectfully submitted;

Jim Isaac
