Rochester City School District:
Recent Forces of Change and our Action Plan to Improve Results

Join us Tuesday, March 11th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be Patty Malgieri, Chief of Staff, Rochester City School District. Patty is the first speaker in our Future of City Education Series.

Patty Malgieri has a 30+ year history of observing and analyzing the educational environment in Rochester, in her positions as President of the Center for Governmental Research, Deputy Mayor of the City of Rochester, President of Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection and Chief of Staff of the Rochester City School District.  She will reflect on the forces that have impacted the District over the last 10 years and on the exciting initiatives being led by Superintendent Bolgen Vargas to increase the percentage of city students who graduate on time, ready for college and career.

President Bob's Journal

The Future of City Education:  Next week, we kick off our Tuesday luncheon speaker series focusing on different ways to improve city education.  Our keynote speakers, beginning with Patty Malgieri, will share their experiences and perspectives on a topic of huge importance to our club and community.  Bring a #2 pencil.  I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Return to Normandy:  Captain Chris Pohlhemus and Dawn Schaible from the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo were the keynote speakers this week.  In a few months, they will participate in events honoring veterans and commemorating the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.  The museum owns the lead plane of the second wave that carried paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division into St. Mere-Eglise, France.  They will fly "Whiskey 7" from Geneseo to Normandy, where the Liberty Jump Team will parachute into France.  To learn more, visit their website www.RTN2014.org or contact Dawn at 243-2100.  You also are invited to line the runway as they depart from Geneseo on May 15th.

Culture: The New Frontier of Competitive Advantage:   At our monthly breakfast meeting, Andrew Brady delivered an excellent presentation on the company cultures of the most successful and profitable business corporations in America.  Thank you to Andrew and the Rotarians in attendance for the wonderful discussion which followed Andrew's presentation.  One of the books that Andrew discussed was Firms of Endearment: How World Class Companies Profit From Passion and Purpose.  Its author, Raj Sisodia, will be in Rochester at Geva Theatre on the morning of May 8, 2014.  If you are interested in attending, please use the following link for ticket information: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/reimagining-business-in-the-age-of-conscious-capitalism-tickets-10315853997?aff=eorg.
