Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner 2013

RI Vice President Matthews            null

For those of you joining us for the 88th Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner on Sunday, November 3rd at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Registration & Reception - 4:00-5:15 p.m.
Dinner, Program & Fellowship - 5:15-8:00p.m.
President Bob's Journal

At our weekly meeting, Rochester Rotarians were treated to an excellent presentation by G. Peter Jemison, a member of the Heron Clan of the Seneca Nation of Indians.  In twenty minutes, he gave us a brief history of the business and trade dealings between Native Americans in Upstate New York and the first European settlers.  Peter also described for us the new Seneca Art and Culture Center that is being built at the Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor.  The center will be completed by 2015, and should greatly enhance the site's mission and offerings to the public.

Congratulations Dr. A. Gidget Hopf, who recently was elected Chair of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries International.  Thank you Joe Floreano, who revealed a one-of-a-kind golf ball with a painting of Jack Nicklaus on it.  Joe won the golf ball at a charity auction, and has donated it to Rotary for permanent display at the Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus putt-putt course.

The next breakfast meeting is Tuesday, November 5, from 7:45 to 8:45 at the Memorial Art Gallery.  Fran Pullano and Sharon Stiller will present on the Affordable Care Act.  Dick Bayer will discuss our Adopt-a-School program at Roberto Clemente School #8.

Please join us at our next luncheon meeting on Tuesday, November 12, as we honor our veterans.  This always is a special meeting within Rochester Rotary, because there are so many Rochester Rotarians who are veterans.  A World War II Battle of the Bulge veteran and Bronze Star recipient will join us that day.  The program will focus on Honor Flight.  If you know someone who has been on Honor Flight, please bring them as a guest to this meeting.

TED Talk

Hello everyone,

Many of you have asked at the Tuesday Luncheon about the link to my Ted Talk on Monday, November 4th.  The Tedx conference will begin live streaming from the Strasenburgh Planetarium beginning at 9 when you will be able to observe the set up and people entering the auditorium;  the speakers will begin at 10. I am not sure of my exact time to speak.  It should be between 11am and 1 pm, Eastern Standard Time,  but I am not exactly sure.

Link: Livestream

Also for those of you who would like to know more about TED and what the TED talks are all about, you can click on the link: www.ted.com

Thanks for all of your support as I prepare for what is undeniably the most challenging public speaking event of my career!!

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign!

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!

We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?

Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.

The proposal process is easy:

  • Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
  • A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
  • The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.

Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:

  • Advertising & Public Relations
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Business Owners
  • Clergy, Religious
  • Commercial Sales
  • Computers, Data Processing
  • Corporate Executives
  • Entertainment & Sports
  • Hotel/Travel
  • Human Resources
  • Military
  • Technology
  • Transportation
  • Utilities

"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference!
