President Bob's Journal

Judicial Candidates Forum:  It was wonderful for Rochester Rotary to host a discussion by all six candidates running in the contested elections for County and Family Court.  We will elect two Family Court Judges on November 5.  The Honorable Dandrea Ruhlmann seeks re-election, and is being challenged by attorneys Juan Nevarez, Nate Van Loon and Jim Walsh.  Attorney Chris Ciaccio and Deputy County Attorney Paul Irving are candidates for the single vacancy on County Court.  Rochester Rotarian and retired Family Court Judge Anthony Sciolino moderated the discussion.  Our luncheon meeting was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the two courts, and to hear from all the candidates.

Congratulations Don Alhart, who just received the Outstanding Community Partner in Learning Award from LDA Life and Learning Services.  Don was recognized for his exceptional volunteer efforts on behalf of organizations that serve individuals with disabilities.  Rochester Rotary and our Sunshine Campus were prominently identified by LDA.  A great many Rochester Rotarians were happy and honored to be present to witness Don receive the award.  Don, on behalf of all Rochester Rotarians, we are very proud of you, and privileged to have the opportunity to serve with you.

Breakfast meeting:  Please RSVP to Brandi Koch if you plan to attend the next breakfast meeting of the Rochester Rotary Club, which will be held on Tuesday, November 5, at the Memorial Art Gallery.  Presentation topics are the Affordable Care Act: How it affects you and your business, and Rochester Rotary's 19-year relationship with our adopted school, the Roberto Clemente School #8.  Breakfast will be served at 7:45.  The meeting will conclude by 8:45.

Happy Hour:  Please join me and your fellow Rochester Rotarians for happy hour on Thursday, November 7, from 5:00 to at least 6:30 pm, at the Back Nine Grill on East Avenue.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign!

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!

We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?

Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.

The proposal process is easy:

  • Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
  • A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
  • The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.

Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:

  • Advertising & Public Relations
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Business Owners
  • Clergy, Religious
  • Commercial Sales
  • Computers, Data Processing

  • Entertainment & Sports
  • Hotel/Travel
  • Human Resources
  • Military
