President Bob's Journal |
Dr. dt ogilvie, the Dean and Professor of Business Strategy at the Saunders College of Business at R.IT., was our keynote speaker this week. The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship was the topic of her presentation. She discussed the success she had as the Founding Director of such a center in Newark, New Jersey, when she was with Rutgers Business School. She also shared with us the details of her plans to found a similar center in Rochester. A great many Rotarians spoke with Dean ogilvie after the meeting to discuss opportunities for collaboration.
Recognition and Fines: Dave Ferris, Sharon Stiller and Don Twietmeyer were recognized for their inclusion in Best Lawyers in America - a significant honor, because it is conferred on lawyers by their peers. Jerry Furciniti, Tom Parrish and Meredith Smith were recognized for their inclusion in this year's class of the RBJ's Forty Under 40. Honorees are professionals younger than forty, who have already demonstrated leadership in the workplace and the community. Past President Joe Floreano fined Past President and Past District Governor Don Alhart, who recently celebrated his forty-third wedding anniversary by staying in the same honeymoon suite in Aruba. Don pledged $75 to the Rotary Foundation, because Rotary was celebrating seventy-five years in Aruba, while Don and Mary were there. Rochester Rotary truly is where the leaders are.
The next breakfast meeting will be held on November 5 at the Memorial Art Gallery. Breakfast buffet will be served beginning at 7:45. The meeting will begin at 8:00 with a presentation by Fran Pullano and Sharon Stiller concerning the Affordable Care Act, and how it will affect you and your business. Dick Bayer will discuss Rochester Rotary's 19-year relationship with our adopted school, the Roberto Clemente School #8, and the many opportunities Rochester Rotarians have to mentor students. The meeting will conclude by 8:45. If it is difficult for you to attend our weekly luncheon meetings, I hope you will be able to attend the breakfast meeting. The personal and professional relationships formed in Rotary are the foundation of all that we accomplish.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign! |

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!
We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?
Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.
The proposal process is easy:
- Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
- A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
- The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.
Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:
- Advertising & Public Relations
- Architecture & Engineering
- Business Owners
- Clergy, Religious
