News of YOUR Club
Eastman Business Park -
The Manufacturing Center for New Economy

Join us Tuesday, October 1st at the Locust Hill Country Club where our guest speaker will be Michael Alt Director of Eastman Business Park. In this role, Mike is responsible for continuing the development of EBP into a world-class multi-use industrial   campus.  He will be working closely with our State and Local Governments, as well as economic development authorities to attract new tenants and technologies to this site, with particular emphasis on renewable energy and clean technology segments.  During his tenure, Mike has added 20 new companies to EBP.

In August, 2011, Mike was named Director of Kodak Real Estate, being responsible for the world-wide portfolio of owned and leased properties.  In addition, Mike is a founding member of a novel commercialization accelerator, model, The Innovation and Materials Science Institute , with a goal of utilizing EBP's assets to aid companies in bridging the gap towards becoming a successful commercial scale manufacturer.

Breakfast Meeting:  Beginning Tuesday, the club will offer  monthly breakfast meetings as an alternative for those members who find it difficult to make the weekly luncheon meetings.  Please join us at the Memorial Art Gallery on the first Tuesday of each month.  Breakfast buffet will be served at 7:45.  The meeting will begin at 8:00 and end by 8:45.  Parking is convenient and free.  On October 1, Captain Jeff Bartkoski will speak about leadership and empowering your team.  Tracey Dreisbach and Brandi Koch will talk briefly about the Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus.  Finally, an activity is planned to allow attendees to interact and network with other Rotarians at the meeting.  I hope to see you Tuesday morning.

Recognition: Congratulations to Mark Armbruster, who is receiving the Greater Rochester Award for Board Leadership.  Mark is a CFA and principal of Armbruster Capital Management, Inc.  He is being recognized for his exceptional work on the Board of Epilepsy-Pralid Inc, a community human services company.  The award luncheon will be held on October 22 at the Convention Center.  Congratulations also to Megan Alchowiak, who joined Rochester Rotary two months ago.  Megan has accepted a new position as Director of Marketing and Media with Volunteers of America.  Megan will be working alongside fellow Rochester Rotarian JoAnne Ryan, President and CEO of VOA WNY, where both will be doing great things for our community.  Thank you to Wolfgang Pfizenmaier and Erich Postler, who organized and hosted the Oktoberfest fellowship event last Saturday.  Thirty-five Rotarians got together for an evening of authentic German hospitality, music, food and beverages.  It was wunderbar!

VJ Stanley, Jr. spoke passionately about the state of youth sports in this country at our luncheon meeting this week.  According to VJ, youth sports have become too focused on winning as an avenue for obtaining potential college scholarships.  As a result, injuries have increased, and too many kids are quitting sports, because they are not having any fun.  VJ's company, Frozen Shorts, is a youth sports consulting company dedicated to long-term athletic development, mental health, and the pure enjoyment of playing youth sports for fun.  VJ also is the author of Stop the Tsunami in Youth Sports: Achieving Balanced Excellence and Health While Embracing the Value of Play for Fun.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign!

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!

We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?

Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.

The proposal process is easy:

  • Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
  • A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
  • The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.

Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:

  • Advertising & Public Relations
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Business Owners
  • Clergy, Religious
  • Commercial Sales
  • Computers, Data Processing
  • Corporate Executives
  • Entertainment & Sports
  • Hotel/Travel
  • Human Resources
  • Military
  • Technology
  • Transportation
  • Utilities

"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference!
