President Bob's Journal
Mayoral Debate: This week, the Rochester Rotary Club was very pleased and proud to host a debate between incumbent Mayor Tom Richards and City Council President Lovely Warren, the two candidates for the Democratic nomination for Mayor of the City of Rochester. Both candidates were impressive and outstanding in their opening and closing remarks, and in their responses to the questions given to them by Don Alhart, who moderated the debate. The candidates agreed to only three debates, and ours was the only one sponsored and held by a single, non-media organization, demonstrating one of the many important roles the Rochester Rotary Club plays in the civic life of our city. Our club also received state-wide recognition for hosting the debate.
Next Tuesday Luncheon: I also hope to see you at our next weekly Tuesday luncheon meeting. The keynote speaker will be Mark Cuddy, Artistic Director at the Geva Theatre Center. Mark also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Rochester Fringe Festival, which begins on September 19, and will be the subject of his presentation. The meeting also will include a check presentation of the moneys we raised at the PGA Championship. Further details of our new Service Fellows recognition, which I mentioned at the inaugural meeting, will be given too.
Shorter Weekly Meetings: We have streamlined the Tuesday luncheon meetings this year, and I have been ringing the final bell by 1:10, sometimes 1:15 at the latest. It is our hope and intention that concluding the meetings earlier makes it easier for all members to attend, especially those who must drive to the meetings. In addition to serving our community, our members are our customers, so please don't hesitate to provide feedback on this and all aspects of your club. |

| Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign! |

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!
We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?
Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.
The proposal process is easy:
- Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
- A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
- The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.
Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:
- Advertising & Public Relations
- Architecture & Engineering
- Business Owners
- Clergy, Religious
- Commercial Sales
- Computers, Data Processing
- Corporate Executives
- Entertainment & Sports
- Hotel/Travel
- Human Resources
- Military
- Technology
- Transportation
- Utilities
"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference! |

What's Going on in the District?
Hello Rotarians,
I want to invite all of our golfers to join us for the District golf tournament. Once again the tournament is being held at the Lima Country Club on Friday Sept. 13th and the tee start will be at 1 PM. As in the past years each Club that send at last 4 golfers will have a chance to win a Paul Harris Fellow donated from Gov. Ellen Hughes. The golfers can be family members, a potential Rotarian or a "friend" of your Club. It is a great opportunity to have a potential Rotarian spending a number of hours talking to one of your members about Rotary. It is also a wonderful time to talk to all of the other Rotarians from all over our District.
Attached to this message (below) is the registration form for the golf tournament. Please download it and fill it in with the golfers and send it back to me. I'll be looking forward to see many of you there.
