What's Happening at Sunshine Campus
This week we welcome Heritage Kids to the Sunshine Camp. It is a great way to end our summer. They are enjoying arts and crafts, pool, pond and much more.
The picture below is from their Carnival Day. They played games, tie-dyed t-shirts, and went in the bounce houses.
After this week at the Sunshine Campus our summer programs end and the campus is available for rental to non-profit organizations. Again, thank you to everyone who helped make the Sunshine Campus an unforgettable experience for so many campers this summer. |

President Bob's Journal
Yesterday, District Governor Ellen Hughes delivered an excellent presentation on Rotary International President Ron Burton's theme to Engage Rotary, Change Lives. Ellen's message was positive and engaging. She frequently touched upon her priorities for our Rotary District and our Club's projects and activities, and how they fit in with this year's theme.
Ellen expressed her dream that this year every Rotarian in the District will make a donation in any amount to the RI Foundation. Our Club's goal is to raise $8,500 for the Foundation. One way we intend to raise such funds is through the Tootsie Roll Club. At the meeting yesterday, Ellen joined that club. Then she nominated Don Alhart for the Bright Spot Award in recognition of his unending support for the District, and especially the RI Foundation, since Don was District Governor in 2002-2003. Congratulations Don!
Attendance yesterday was fantastic. Rotarians turned out in record numbers for the District Governor's official visit. We had a full house, and I believe, based upon the standing ovation she received, that everyone enjoyed Ellen's presentation. Thank you for the support.
Next Tuesday, September 3, the Rochester Rotary Club will host an important debate in the Democratic primary race for Mayor of the City of Rochester. I am very excited that City Council President Lovely Warren and incumbent Mayor Tom Richards accepted our invitation. I am eager to hear their visions for our great city, and their positions on economic development, education and improving conditions in city neighborhoods. If you have a question for the candidates, please write it on a piece of paper or index card, and place it in the glass bowl that will be located at the check-in tables on Tuesday.
This has been a very busy summer. I thank the office staff and all Rotarians for their hard work, dedication and commitment to make sure that we didn't just get things done, but we did everything extremely well. You can always be counted on to answer the call to service, and that makes each of you and our Club very special. I wish you an enjoyable, relaxing and safe Labor Day holiday. |

| Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign! |

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!
We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?
Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.
The proposal process is easy:
- Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
- A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
- The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.
Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:
- Advertising & Public Relations
- Architecture & Engineering
- Business Owners
- Clergy, Religious
- Commercial Sales
- Computers, Data Processing
- Corporate Executives
- Entertainment & Sports
- Hotel/Travel
- Human Resources
- Military
- Technology
- Transportation
- Utilities
"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference! |

What's Going on in the District?
Hello Rotarians,
I want to invite all of our golfers to join us for the District golf tournament. Once again the tournament is being held at the Lima Country Club on Friday Sept. 13th and the tee start will be at 1 PM. As in the past years each Club that send at last 4 golfers will have a chance to win a Paul Harris Fellow donated from Gov. Ellen Hughes. The golfers can be family members, a potential Rotarian or a "friend" of your Club. It is a great opportunity to have a potential Rotarian spending a number of hours talking to one of your members about Rotary. It is also a wonderful time to talk to all of the other Rotarians from all over our District.
Attached to this message (below) is the registration form for the golf tournament. Please download it and fill it in with the golfers and send it back to me. I'll be looking forward to see many of you there.
