What's Happening at the Sunshine Campus

Camp Haccamo Week 3 is well under way. They are enjoying a beautiful week filled with the pool, pond, climbing wall and much more.  They are gearing up for the Prom and play this week.

As the summer winds down we would like to thank everyone for their support.  Below is a picture of the 2013 Program staff.  It was an AMAZING summer! The Sunshine Campus is a magical place!

District 7120 Governor Ellen Hughes

Join us Tuesday, August 27th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center where our guest speaker will be Rotary District 7120 Governor Ellen Hughes.

Ellen has been a Rotarian for 18 years, in that time she has served as Club President (twice), Youth Exchange Officer, Interact Advisor and Secretary.

The Peter D. Formicola Sunshine Camp Golf Invitational was held at Midvale Country Club on Monday.  The event was a big success.  We had more than 150 guests, who enjoyed a wonderful event.  They were very impressed with what they learned about the Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus, and by our members' dedication to it.  Current camp counselor and former camper Laura Day spoke eloquently during dinner driving home the importance of camp.  Midvale served an outstanding dinner, and the golf course was in excellent shape.  The weather was perfect, and everyone had tremendous fun.

The PGA Championship is a tough act to follow.  Under the excellent leadership of Don Barone and Wayne Wegman, and through the hard work of the entire committee, our Rotary Office staff, the staff at Midvale, and our many volunteers, every aspect of the event was flawlessly executed.  Congratulations to all!

I strongly encourage you to attend the next Tuesday luncheon on August 27 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.  District Governor Ellen Hughes will make her official visit.  She will speak to us about this year's Rotary International theme to Engage Rotary, Change Lives, along with her own goals for our District. Ellen already has proven herself to be an excellent District Governor and a great supporter of our club.  She volunteered at the concession stand that we operated during the PGA Championship; she developed a special incentive package that she is using to promote attendance from neighboring districts at our Eastern Cities Dinner on November 3; and, when we had a last minute postponement by the planned keynote speaker, Ellen rearranged her schedule in order to visit our club on Tuesday.  It is important that you show your support by attending the luncheon meeting on Tuesday.  I look forward to seeing you there.

A quote sent in from Rochester Rotarian David Durham sums up the value beyond the money we raised for Sunshine Campus and our kids!

"Oh, when that alarm went off at 4.45 a.m. and I struggled to get both feet out from under those warm cozy covers, I wondered - "what have I gotten myself into?"  Driving to Tech Park and slumping into the bus seat didn't help much.  But when things truly got under way - that first person requesting a cup of java - the sunlight outside dawned within me as well.  Over the next several hours I found a camaraderie with Rotarians much deeper than what one can find in the formal Tuesday luncheon.  I came away from Oak Hill with a new joy over being a Rotarian and new friendships in our club.  What a moving and blessed experience!"...David Durham

Thank you to all that were involved in our PGA concession project. Whether you helped recruit family and friends or worked the concession tent, we were truly blessed by the outstanding support we received from so many of our club members and their contacts. We also had outstanding support from the majority of the other Monroe County Rotary Clubs all working together supporting Sunshine Campus. We are proud to announce we made in excess of $30,000 with tips.

As a Thank YOU to all involved we would like to invite you and your family to a cookout at Sunshine Campus next Wednesday, August 28th beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Please contact Myrna at myrna@rochesterrotary.org or 585-546-7435 x201 to sign up. Several volunteers joined us at the last minute on the weekend.  If you were involved in making that happen, please verify that they received this invitation just in case we missed their email address.

Thank you for supporting Rochester Rotary's Sunshine Campus,

Tracey Dreisbach, Wolfgang Pfizenmaier, Pete Sarratori, Pat Stack, and John White

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign!

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!

We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?

Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.

The proposal process is easy:

  • Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
  • A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
  • The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.

Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:

  • Advertising & Public Relations
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Business Owners
  • Clergy, Religious
  • Commercial Sales
  • Computers, Data Processing
  • Corporate Executives
  • Entertainment & Sports
  • Hotel/Travel
  • Human Resources
  • Military
  • Technology
  • Transportation
  • Utilities

"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference!

What's Going on in the District?

Hello Rotarians,

I want to invite all of our golfers to join us for the District golf tournament. Once again the tournament is being held at the Lima Country Club on Friday Sept. 13th and the tee start will be at 1 PM. I am asking each Club to donate a door prize with a value of at least $25. If your Club can't send a golfer to the tournament please consider sending a check ($25) to me a nd I will buy a door prize for your Club. As in the past years each Club that send at last 4 golfers will have a chance to win a Paul Harris Fellow donated from Gov. Ellen Hughes. The golfers can be family members, a potential Rotarian or a "friend" of your Club. It is a great opportunity to have a potential Rotarian spending a number of hours talking to one of your members about Rotary. It is also a wonderful time to talk to all of the other Rotarians from all over our District.

Attached to this message (below) is the registration form for the golf tournament. Please download it and fill it in with the golfers and send it back to me. I'll be looking forward to see many of you there.
