President Bob's Journal

PGA Week:  I just can't stop bragging to everyone I know about what an outstanding job we did staffing and operating our concession stand at the PGA Championship last week.  We do not know yet how much money we raised.  However, we do know the entire project was a success, and it was a great experience for all who volunteered.  Numerous sources have told us that the PGA and Levy Premium Foodservice were very impressed with our performance.  Once again, Rotarians got the job done.  Everyone worked very hard and efficiently.  Thank you and congratulations!!

Steve Tasker:  The former Buffalo Bill and current CBS commentator was the keynote speaker at our luncheon meeting Tuesday.  He is very high on the Buffalo Bills, including many of the rookie players, the new coach, and recent changes in the front office.  Steve spoke convincingly that this could be the year that the Bills stop breaking our hearts and return to the playoffs.  He might even have convinced me to watch them again.  He also told an interesting story regarding his experience during the blackout at the beginning of the second half of the Super Bowl.  Special thank you to Mark Zawacki and our camp partner, Heritage Christian Services, for arranging Steve's appearance.

Bills Fellowship Event:  Rochester Rotary will be heading to The Ralph to see if Steve "A Tisker, A" Tasker is right in his prediction.  We have thirty tickets in the end zone for the Bills game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, October 13.  We will provide transportation, and food/beverage for tailgaiting before the game.  Please contact Heather Rossi for all the details and to reserve your spot.

Invitation:  I wish to extend an invitation to all Rotarians and their spouses to join me and Marlene tonight from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at Pier 45 for the President's Welcome Reception.  The weather forecast is excellent, and we will be hosted on the patio overlooking the Genesee River and Lake Ontario.  I look forward to socializing with all of you.

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign!

Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!

We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?

Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.

The proposal process is easy:

  • Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
  • A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
  • The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.

Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:

  • Advertising & Public Relations
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Business Owners
  • Clergy, Religious
  • Commercial Sales
  • Computers, Data Processing
  • Corporate Executives
  • Entertainment & Sports
  • Hotel/Travel
  • Human Resources
  • Military
  • Technology
  • Transportation

"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference!

 Hello District 7120 Rotarians,
