What's Happening at the Sunshine Campus |
This week at the Sunshine Campus we welcome Heritage Christian Services. They are enjoying a fun filled week of crafts, tractor rides, bingo & much more. This week they also had a Family Night where we hosted 1500 guest on the campus. It was a great night filled with friends & family. What a great way to show off what an AMAZING place the Sunshine Campus is. The next 3 weeks in August we will be hosting Camp Haccamo. We are looking forward to it.
To the right are some campers and staff enjoying sand art. |
President Bob's Journal |
Fellow Rochester Rotarian, Anthony J. Sciolino delivered an excellent keynote address this week pertaining to his award-winning book, The Holocaust, the Church and the Law of Unintended Consequences. The book and the presentation examined the two thousand-year history of Christian anti-Judaism and how it contributed to Nazi anti-Semitism in predominantly Christian Europe during World War II. Tony incorporated his life's experiences, beginning as a child reading The Diary of Anne Frank, through his extensive travels, twenty years as a Family Court Judge, and now as an ordained Roman Catholic deacon. His book won the 2013 Independent Publishers Book Award - a Silver Medal in the category of world history. Congratulations to our fellow Rotarian, and thank you for sharing your findings of fact and conclusions (of law) concerning a tragic and horrific period in history, which sadly is still important and relevant today.
The Bright Spot this week was awarded to Jennifer Hawryschuk, Office Sales Manager at Northwest Savings Bank in Webster. Jennifer organized the Class of 2012's project, which consisted of constructing vegetable beds with the students at Roberto Clemente School No. 8. Jennifer was nominated and recognized by her classmates, who are grateful to Jennifer for the leadership role she embraced relative to their class project. Congratulations Jennifer and the Class of 2012! In addition to the installation of the vegetable beds at our adopted school, the class also donated $2,600 and life vests valued at approximately $1,000, to the Rotary Sunshine Campus.
Next week is PGA week! All 350 shifts have been filled! A huge thank you to everyone for answering the call to volunteer! Have fun working together to raise money for the Sunshine Campus, and enjoy the golf!

Partner with Your Membership Committee for This Year's "PLUS ONE" Campaign! |
Rochester Rotarians are the best source of qualified new members--bringing their business colleagues and friends into the club each year. This past year we saw more than 35 new members join Rochester Rotary!
We need your help to achieve our goal for this year. Do you have a business associate or a friend who might benefit from Rochester Rotary through excellent speakers on a variety of topics at the Tuesday Noon Lunch Meeting, business networking meeting with other business leaders or service opportunities such as those at School # 8 and the Sunshine Campus?
Your Membership Committee is undertaking a special campaign for new members-PLUS ONE! We are asking each member to identify and engage one new member! Bring your potential new member to a luncheon or to an upcoming event. Membership Co-Chairs Mary Lewis Consler and Scott Rasmussen are happy to assist you, as are all Membership Committee members.
The proposal process is easy:
- Simply complete a short Membership Proposal Card, which can be found on the Rochester Rotary website under "Club Committees," and submit the card to the Rotary office.
- A Membership Committee member will meet with your candidate to discuss Rochester Rotary and to learn more about the candidate.
- The Membership Committee member will share information with the committee and make a recommendation for Board approval.
Currently Rochester Rotary is looking for new members in these areas:
- Advertising & Public Relations
- Architecture & Engineering
- Business Owners
- Clergy, Religious
- Commercial Sales
- Computers, Data Processing
- Corporate Executives
- Entertainment & Sports
- Hotel/Travel
- Human Resources
- Military
- Technology
- Transportation
- Utilities
"PLUS ONE"! That's the Membership Committee's and Rochester Rotary's mission this year! With one new member referral you can make a real difference! |
