This may sound a bit self-serving, but we are one impressive group of Rotarians! This week about 50 members and guests representing our "Young Professionals and Rising Leaders" gathered at Pomodoro's on University Avenue to network, build goodwill and better friendships, and enjoy the delicious finger foods along with a beverage or two. The amazing quality of the individuals, the professions they serve so honorably, and the energy they brought to the affair was remarkable. The entire evening, start to finish, was a blast and a half. This was the second occasion to bring this group together and from the response and comments, it will not be the last! The wonderful question from all in attendance was "When's the next one?" Thankfully I was invited as the Club President or I would not have made the age cut. You could not possibly walk out of that event without feeling fired up about our club and having no worries about our future leadership. What a nice, NICE group of people!
As you may have come to realize, I felt compelled to say a few words. I think they bear repeating for each of us to take into our hearts. I stole a line from RI President Sakuji Tanaka and told them that they were far more than just members of a local Rotary Club, they were Rotarians! We are bonded together by our motto of Service Above Self and proud of the fact we give more than we take. Globally we fight Polio and secure clean and available water to millions of people who cannot take that resource for granted. Nationally we provide disaster relief knowing that there are no leaks in the funding pipe because Rotarians are in charge. And Locally, we own and operate our cherished Sunshine Campus serving over 2,500 kids and young adults with disabilities every year. The sacrifices we make to support all that service has no comparison to the fullfillment of knowing and seeing what we can accomplish - together.
We are also bonded together by subscribing to the highest ethical code of any organization in the world - The Rotary 4-Way Test. The outcome of living the 4-Way Test is the confidence of building trusted and valued long term relationships. And, that is exactly what we were doing at Pomodoro's. My closing line was "On your Marks, Get Set, . . . NETWORK!
Special thanks, Kudos and bouquets to those who worked so hard to make this event a success. Mary Lewis Consler, Tracey Dreisbach, Scott Rasmussen, Meredith Smith, Mark Armbruster Heather Rossi, Rick Krempin, and Amanda Galley. Thank you Team! Well Done!!

Pete Sarratori, our Vice President of the Sunshine Campus, also spoke to the group at Pomodoro's and his message needs to be heard by all of us. Pete talked about needing volunteers for the PGA Championship and recalled how wonderful it used to be working as a team of Rochester Rotarians at the LPGA tournaments. Some of the best and longest term friendships come from meeting new people and working together raising money for the camp. Sure, its hard work to put in an 8 hour shift serving food and drinks, but it's the hard work that makes it so fulfilling. If we fill all the shifts we are responsible for, we expect a major contribution to the Forever Sunshine Capital Campaign from the tournament. We need more volunteers. Please go to the website, click on the PGA logo, and sign up for a shift or two or three. Ask your friends, neighbors, and co-workers and give them the opportunity to feel good about helping the kids at camp. Form a work team to all work the same shift and I guarantee you will have a ball doing it. Sandy and I will be there almost every day and hope you will join us. Sign up Now!
