This is a heartbreaking week for us at Rochester Rotary. On Tuesday morning we learned that we lost our friend, colleague and Past Club President Gay Maney to cancer. It was particularly poignant that at the same time our club was being selected as a contributing charity to the PGA Championship, Gay was being recognized by the PGA as the driving force behind the PGAs Reach for the Green Scholarship Fund. She was a gracious lady, a driven leader, a giving citizen, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Our hearts and prayers of comfort are offered to Bob and the Maney family as they mourn their loss and recall the memories of happier times.
Also, for those of you who knew and admired Vince Stanley, there will be a celebration of Vince's life on Saturday, April 27th , at the Burgundy Basin Inn. The event is scheduled from 1 pm till 5 pm and full details are available from Judy Zabelny, 585-770-2611 or jzebelny@vjstanley.com. As you may recall, Vince passed on November 11, 2012.

Curt Smith gave a wonderful presentation this week on "What Baseball Means to Me." It was a trip down memory lane with a collection of his stories and reflections on baseball's great players and managers sprinkled with the impressions those people and circumstances had on his, and our lives. Many thanks to Past President Bob Witmer for arranging this excellent program.
A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a $65,000 contribution to the Sunshine Campus from the proceeds of the Sunshine Kids Gala held on February 22nd. Randy Farnsworth, Chairman of the Rochester Auto Dealers Association (RADA), Brad McAreavy, President, and Randy Spurr, Vice President presented the check to Gala Chair Peter Sarratori. Randy Farnsworth gave a wonderful tribute to Rochester Rotary and talked about how much the Auto Dealers have enjoyed the partnership we have had for 4 years. This year's $65,000 check is the highest amount in those 4 years. The total net proceeds distributed to charities by RADA was $85,000, with $20,000 going to 5 other charities supported by the Auto Dealers.
We all owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to our Gala Committee for working so hard and generating such an outstanding result.

This week's Tootsie Roll Bright Spot Award was presented to our first Dual Award Winners, Kathleen Pringle and Lynn Sullivan. Nominated by Peter Sarratori, the award was presented to them in recognition of the outstanding work they did on the auctions at the Sunshine Kids Gala!
Kathleen and Lynn are a dynamic duo, always putting their hearts and souls into one of the hardest areas of a fund raising event to manage, the Live and Silent Auctions. This year they set a record on the amount of money raised from the wonderful and creative array of items up for auction. Their hard work paid off with an over the top success and they are truly a joy to work with. Both of these dedicated Rotarians have also organized the successful auctions for the Peter D. Formicola Golf Tournament as well. Thank you for your commitment to Service Above Self and your dedication to Rochester Rotary.

Judge Johnny's Fines and Recognition Report:
-
Fred Quirin was fined $25 for being the Rochester Rotary model of health and wellness as he celebrates his 97th birthday on April 14th. Fred is a wonderful testimony to the benefits of being a Rotarian, clean living, daily exercise, and the acceptance that his golf game is lousy. All together now . . .Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you . . . - In a moment of insensitivity, Past President Joe Floreano fined Brad McAreavy $25 because Joe alleged that Brad's cell phone rang during the meeting. I say "insensitive" because not only was the call disputed by others at the table, but at the time of the fine Brad had a check payable to The Sunshine Campus for $65,000 in his pocket!Thankfully, Brad has a sense of humor and gave us the check anyway. Final result? Both Joe and Brad agreed to a $25 contribution to Rotary International.
- Cheryl Nelan volunteered a $25 contribution to the cause because there was an extensive and very nice article about her firm, CMIT Solutions in last week's Rochester Business Journal. Want to know what the heck CMIT Solutions does for a living? Give Cheryl a call at 672-9151.
