President John's  Journal

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We as Rochester Rotarians have so much to be thankful for and have blessings in our lives too numerous to count. I think, for many of us, Thanksgiving has become the most significant holiday of the year for celebrating family and friends and finding warmth of heart in the relationships that are most meaningful in our lives. It is a day when blessings trump problems. It is a day to be truly thankful for all that we have. My emotions run high as I think of all the ways that Rotary has blessed so many lives and all the lives that are better for the fellowship, friendship and family found right here in our Club.   I think of the sacrifice that each of you consistently make with your time, your talent, your spirit, and your money. Did you know that the word sacrifice is defined as "a gift"? Our lives as Rotarians are rich with the gifts we give and the gifts we receive. The fulfillment we find motivates us to do more, and "the open hand of giving is always full".

As you bow your head in prayer, meditation, or joyful thought, consider how grateful we are as Rochester Rotarians and give thanks on Thursday for these blessings:

  • Our Office Staff of Tracey, Heather, Linda, Brandi & Jill who personify dedication and unselfishness in their commitment to always go above and beyond our expectations.
  • Our Camp staff of Larry and Seth who go way beyond maintaining the Sunshine Campus as a world class facility and treat the entire 157 acres as the hallowed ground that it is.
  • Our Camp Partner's who provide so much life and vitality to the Campus by extending the thrill of a camping experience to their "kids": Heritage Christian Services, Camp Haccamo, Mary Cariola Children's Center, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Diabetes Association, Camp Joy, and Reach For The Stars.
  • Our Campers, who give us back so much more than we give them.
  • Mark Matthews, Principal at Roberto Clemente School #8, and his staff of dedicated teachers and administrators who welcome us with open arms to make a difference in the lives of their students.
  • The Students at School #8 whose smiles and hugs and thank yous let us know how much we are needed as role models and mentors.
  • Our Fund Raising Event partner organizations that help us to raise the money we need to do the good that we do: The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Midvale Country Club, The Rochester Auto Dealers Association, and The Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

WE ARE INDEED RICHLY BLESSED

PROUD TO BE ROCHESTER ROTARIANS

DEEPLY THANKFUL

At Monday evening's Gather and Gobble open house we had a tremendous crowd of both Gatherers and Gobblers! It was quite the affair with the office all decked out in Thanksgiving Party mode and filled with the sounds of voices and laughter as fellowship and friendship were both in high gear. The food and drinks that were prepared and presented by the office staff was a sumptuous buffet of bounty and the "Gobblers" did some serious damage. We even had fun joking at the bar listening to Dr. Dick Bayer lecture us on how to avoid liver damage! Linda Garland was radiant and so appreciative of all the praise and memories shared as she approaches retirement at the end of December. It was truly a fun filled event for all, and if you missed it, block it out on your calendar right now for next year, Monday November 25, 2013, 4:30 - 6:30.

President-Elect Bob Attardo and his Community Service Team Volunteers were at the airport on Tuesday evening working for the Full Circle Home organization.   Full Circle Home is that wonderful organization founded here in Rochester that "Supports the Women, Who Support the Troops, Who Support All Of Us Here At Home". This year they will send out over 500 packages of pampering products filled with gifts for the 12 Days of Christmas to the mothers, wives, girlfriends and sisters of deployed service men and women. 16 Rotary Volunteers helped pack and wrap 600 items representing presents for days 3 and 10. Thanks to YNN and all of the travelers who stopped by to see what we were doing, it was an excellent Public Relations event for Rochester Rotary giving assistance to a worthy cause. Not picking on anyone, but Rotarian Mark Armbruster got the award for the most "aesthetically challenged" bows.
