Sneak Peek: Completed I-22 interchange will open Monday June 20 with ribbon cutting
on June 15, 2016
The I-22 interchange at I-65 between Fultondale and Birmingham is completed and will open to motorists on June 20,2016.
I was given a sneak peek today to take photos from the highest ramps and fly-overs by ALDOT this morning. The photo gallery above shows views from the interchange not previously seen.

PORT OF MOBILE GAINS NEW ASIAN SHIPPING ROUTE

The Alabama State Port Authority (ASPA) has announced a new joint weekly, direct container shipping service between the Port of Mobile and key ports in Asia.
COSCO Container Lines "CSCL" and Hanjin Shipping, currently the 4th and 8TH largest container carriers in the world respectively, made its first call at the Port of Mobile last week.
The new joint Gulf of Mexico Express (GME) service will connect Alabama shippers to the Ports of Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, and Yantian, as well as provide transshipment service through the Port of Cristobal in Panama. The U.S. Gulf rotation includes both the Ports of Mobile and Houston.
Hoover breaks ground for sports complex next to Hoover Met
Hoover officials held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning for the $76 million sports complex and event center being built next to Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
City leaders joined officials from the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Southeastern Conference, Alabama Sports Council and the construction and architectural firms that are involved in the project.
Hoover Executive Director Allen Pate noted there's no time to waste because the 155,000-square-foot indoor event center has to be completed in time for the 2017 SEC Baseball Tournament in May.

GE Aviation breaking ground Thursday on $200 million factories

Gov. Robert Bentley and GE Aviation leaders and Huntsville officials will break ground Thursday on two factories that will cost over $200 million to build and when operating will employee 300 people.
The factories will produce silicon carbide materials used to manufacture ceramic matrix composite components for jet engines and land-based gas turbines.
GE Aviation is a provider of jet engines, components and integrated systems for commercial and military aircraft. The two new factories will go up on 100 acres next to company adjacent facilities at the southeast corner of the intersection of Greenbrier Road and Interstate 565 near FedEx in Huntsville-annexed Limestone County.
