Alabama innovation awards finalists named
on April 25, 2016 

The search for Alabama's top innovation achievements in business is down to 11 finalists.

The Economic Development Partnership of Alabama on Monday announced the 11 finalists for the 2016 Alabama Innovation Awards.

The eventual winners will be recognized at the Sixth Annual Alabama Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference in Birmingham this summer.

This Alabama city is the nation's top destination for STEM graduates

For the second consecutive year, Huntsville offers better career prospects for college graduates planning a job in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields than tech hotspots like Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Of 330 cities analyzed by NerdWallet, Huntsville ranked No. 1 for STEM graduates. The city ranks highly for job opportunity, average salary, and cost of living.

There are 152 STEM employees per 1,000 total jobs in Huntsville and that high demand also comes with a high paycheck. The average salary for STEM employees in Huntsville is $95,000. That's about $11,000 higher than the national average.

Auburn University aviation program to partner with community colleges

Auburn University President Jay Gogue and Alabama Community College System Chancellor Mark Heinrich will sign a memorandum of understanding Thursday morning that will enhance aviation training and economic development opportunities around the state, according to a university press statement released this morning.

The collaboration will include aerospace engineering and aviation-related degree and certificate programs; flight education training; unmanned aircraft systems, or UAS, certification and licensing programs; and technical training such as airframe technology, avionics technology and power plant technology.

The signing event is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Auburn University Regional Airport in Auburn.
