Birmingham execs can learn to foster new ideas at UAB's Innovation Boot Camp beginning Jan. 11

Birmingham-area executives who would like to learn to foster new ideas at their firms are invited to attend an Innovation Boot Camp to be hosted by The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Collat School of Business at theMcWane Science Center downtown on five consecutive Sundays from 1-5 p.m. beginning Jan. 11 

 

The Innovation Boot Camp will consist of intensive, hands-on sessions meant to give participants practice with innovation techniques that can be applied to products, services and business design. 

 

Total cost for the camp is $800, and the registration deadline is Jan. 8, according to a news release today from UAB.

Southern Research Announces Two New Board of Directors Appointments

 

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Jan. 8, 2015 -- Southern Research welcomes to its board of directors retired U.S. Army Major General N. Lee S. Price and Alabama Power Chairman, President and CEO Mark Crosswhite. Their appointments were effective January 1, 2015.

BL Harbert awarded $34 million UM student housing contract

Birmingham-based BL Harbert International will build Phase II of the University of Mississippi's student housing project.

 

The $34.9 million Student Housing Project Phase II will consist of 169,000 square feet of dorm facilities.

 

"BL Harbert is pleased to construct another first-class facility at the University of Mississippi," said Ben Nevins, BL Harbert senior vice president. "Our work, to date, on the new basketball arena has been very successful, and we are excited about breaking ground on another important project on campus. We strive to deliver top-notch facilities where students can live, learn, and succeed. Our team looks forward to welcoming Ole Miss students to their new homes in the fall of 2016."

Deadline to comment on Alabama council project selection process and Centers for Excellence looms closer

MOBILE, Alabama -- Local leaders want to hear from you.

 

What kind of projects do you think they should put oil spill money into first? In December, the Alabama Gulf Coast Recovery Council told everybody its answer: infrastructure and economic development.

 

While their decision on how to spend the first $56 million does wean down a long list of pricey initiatives, there's still a sizable imbalance when comparing the cost of projects to the funds available. In the meantime, the council has released a draft of its selection process, detailing how they plan to vet and evaluate the first list of projects.

 

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which serves as the administrator, will be the primary actor, moving projects through a multi-step process before the council submits a so-called multi-year implementation plan to the U.S. Department of Treasury.
