Milo's Tea Co. to receive $1.2 million in tax abatements for Bessemer expansion
on June 25, 2014

BESSEMER, Alabama -- Milo's Tea Co. will receive $1.2 million in tax abatements over 10 years for a $13.1 million, 29-job expansion at its operations in Bessemer.

The company is expanding and improving its current facility, and it is buying 3.3 acres of adjoining property and a building for additional cold storage and future growth, the Birmingham Business Alliance announced earlier today.

The project is aimed at meeting growing demand for Milo's Tea Co. beverage products across the U.S.

Earlier this year, the company added three new products to its lineup, including Lemonade, Decaf Sweet Tea and Famous Sweet Tea and Lemonade. In addition, its core products are now available in 38 states, from 18 previously.

New industry locating in Enterpise

ENTERPRISE -- If the plan was for industry secured by the Wiregrass Economic Development Corp. to have a domino effect on future companies, consider another wall knocked over. On Wednesday, Advanced Carrier Products North America CEO Mark Tober announced that his group is relocating its headquarters from Atlanta to Enterprise.

The announcement, held at the WEDC offices, included 30 new jobs to the local economy, and at $15 per hour, well above the average regional wage level, said WEDC Executive Director Jonathan Tullos. He also noted that the supervisor and management positions will be in the $45,000-$60,000 annual salary range, something Tullos called "phenomenal."

"Hopefully, growth will occur, too," Tullos said.

Hyuandai may be ready to grow again

Brad Harper, Montgomery Advertiser

June 26, 2014

With auto sales on the rise, Hyundai may be ready to take the brakes off plant expansions.

Hyundai Motor America reported all-time record sales last month. But HMA President and CEO Dave Zuchowski said Wednesday that even record sales won't be enough to keep up with the industry and hinted that possible expansion could be in the truck and SUV market.

"We'll build probably 750,000 total units this year, and at that level with what the industry is doing right now we will not be able to maintain market share," Zuchowski said. "So we can continue to set sales records, but we'll lose market share and we don't want to do that.

Bentley awards job assistance grant for former International Paper workers

For The News Courier

June 25, 2014

MONTGOMERY- Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded $823,755 to assist up to 1,100 former employees of International Paper Co.'s Courtland mill in north Alabama to obtain new jobs.

Alabama applied for a special National Emergency Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to enable the state to boost assistance at Alabama Career Center offices in Sheffield and Decatur to help the former mill employees secure new jobs.

International Paper closed the Lawrence County paper mill in early 2014 affecting plant workers living in seven Alabama counties and one Tennessee county.

"Anyone who has been laid off from a job, particularly a job they have held for a decade or more, knows the hardship faced by their families and their communities," Bentley said. "We remain committed to provide whatever resources possible to assist former International Paper employees to obtain new jobs and resume normal lives."

Leavendary Crafting Legendary Yeast for Largest Craft Brewer in Alabama

Huntsville, Ala., June 26, 204, - It has been said that, "Brewing is the art of feeding sugar to yeast."

According to entrepreneur Peyton McNully, founder of the first yeast propagation service in the Southeast U.S., brewers in Alabama are in need of high quality yeast as they refine and grow their art.

"We want our client brewers to make and sell the very best beer in Alabama, nationally, and internationally. We want to put Alabama on every beer enthusiast's map," McNully said.

Leavendary, located at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Huntsville, Ala., offers high-quality, customized yeast to craft brewers. Yeast cells are living organisms, and the entire brewery depends on their health, vitality and fermentation, McNully said.
