on April 07, 2014

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Officials with the Laclede Group said its $1.6 billion purchase of Alagasco gives it greater geographic and regulatory diversity and puts it in a state where it sees opportunities to grow.

Suzanne Sitherwood, Laclede chief executive officer, said in a conference call this morning the cultures and operations of the two companies will be a natural fit.

"Alagasco is an excellent fit for Laclede, and allows us to leverage our combined scale, industry expertise and more than 150 years of experience to drive customer and shareholder value," Sitherwood said in a release. "Now, with Alagasco, our utility customer base increases from approximately 1.13 million to 1.55 million."

Fairhope Airport Industrial Park earns Alabama AdvantageSite designation

FAIRHOPE, Alabama -- The city's 110-acre industrial park located next to H. L. Sonny Callahan Airport has become the fifth Baldwin County site to earn the Alabama AdvantageSite designation.

The voluntary industrial site preparedness program is coordinated by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama and is a collaboration between the private sector and state and local governments aimed at increasing the marketability of locations in Alabama.

Since its inception in 2008, the program has recognized 47 AdvantageSite locations in the state after meeting guidelines such as utility and environmental standards, size, zoning and accessibility.

Out of its 110 acres, the Fairhope Airport Industrial Park has 75 contiguous developable acres. It is located on Baldwin County 32 next to the municipal airport with its 6,604-foot runway, about 12 miles south of Interstate 10.
