With 'one of the biggest projects that's ever hit Alabama' on the hook, state leaders will talk turkey about Boeing over Thanksgiving

on November 25, 2013 

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Mayor Tommy Battle said city and state leaders will likely meet through the Thanksgiving holiday to begin crafting an incentive package aimed at bringing Boeing's 777X jetliner production to Huntsville.

 

"We're going to work through what we can do and how we can structure this to be a win for the state and the community and Boeing," Battle told AL.com Monday. "We're going to be competitive in this thing. The governor has made that commitment, the secretary of commerce has made that commitment."

 

Boeing confirmed over the weekend that it has sent out a formal request for proposals to more than a dozen sites across the United States. Huntsville, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, North Charleston, S.C., and Long Beach, Calif., are believed to be on the company's short list. Officials in Kansas and Georgia have also expressed interest.

Huntsville-based Torch Technologies appoints new president, lands $8M U.S. Army task order

on November 25, 2013 

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - A new president has been promoted to help lead Huntsville-based Torch Technologies, which recently ranked among 19 Madison County companies on the 2013 Inc. 500/5000 List.


John Watson, former vice president of business development and manager for the Scalable Simulation Program with the USA AMRDEC, has been named president of Torch. 

 

Watson's promotion comes on the heels of another Torch accomplishment. The employee-owned company announced Monday it has been granted a U.S. Army Apache Technical Software Resource, Modernization and Fielding Support Task valued at $8 million.

AT&T hiring for 120 jobs in Alabama

AT&T plans to hire for 120 positions throughout Alabama, the company recently announced.

The Dallas-based telecom giant said in a news release that 80 of those 120 positions will be new jobs. The openings include call center, technician and retail jobs.

 

"AT&T continues to expand its customer base in Alabama and invest in its network to ensure we are providing the high level of service that customers have come to expect," said AT&T Alabama PresidentFred McCallum, in a statement. "As part of our commitment to this level of customer service and to support our growth in the state, we are pleased to have the opportunity to welcome even more Alabama residents to the AT&T family."

Mobile Chamber honors four companies for outstanding 2013 impact
on November 25, 2013 

MOBILE, Alabama - The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce recognized four companies Nov. 22 at a joint meeting of the organization's governing board of directors, board of advisers and its economic development investors.

 

Honorees were as follows:

  • Small Business of the Year: Safe Archives
  • Manufacturer of the Year: BAE Systems
  • Corporate Community Service Award: Airbus Americas Engineering
  • Ambassador of the Year: Millie Sue Hawk

Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa undergoing multi-million-dollar renovation
on November 25, 2013 

HOOVER, Alabama - TheRenaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa in Hoover has just started a multi-million-dollar renovation project that will include all 259 guest rooms and numerous common areas, records show.

 

Work just recently began on the renovation job, said Bill Lang, a spokesman for PCH Hotels & Resorts, which runs the resort in Ross Bridge.

 

The renovation work is scheduled to be done in 16 weeks, with a target completion date of Feb. 28, according to building permit applications submitted to the city of Hoover.
