 EVENTS

Dear ,

The 'electronica' trade fair celebrated its 50th Anniversary last week in Munich with over 73,000 visitors and 2,737 exhibitors! Luger Research organized the first 'Lighting Forum' with the motto 'International Year of Light 2015' bringing together lighting experts who discussed strategies and trends in Solid-State Lighting. Future lighting system designs will have to strongly integrate human and application requirements, incorporate added values by adding more functionalities and keep track with high-quality requirements from the light-source to the complete system design.
"In 10 years we will have shining computers as luminaires" said Mr. Gschwändler, Head of Business Lighting at CeramTec.

At the end of September the 4th LED professional Symposium +Expo took place in Bregenz. The post-show report presents the latest trends in engineering and design of future lighting systems. Please read the latest LpR Magazine, Issue 46 for this complete and detailed report about next generation product designs.

Please also find latest product news within this newsletter.

Best regards,

Siegfried Luger

Osram Reports Record Figures for Green InGaN-Based and Conversion LEDs

The "Hi-Q-LED" project funded by Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has made pioneering advances with green LEDs, greatly diminishing what is known as the "green gap" phenomenon - the significant drop in efficacy in the green spectral range. The result is a green-emitting LED based on indium gallium nitride (InGaN) semiconductors which achieves a record efficacy of 147 lumens per watt (lm/W) at a wavelength of 530 nanometers (nm) and a spectral width of 35 nm. Light in New Shape - BMBF-Funded Joint Project R2D2

The research progresses of the last five years have proven the technical feasibility of the vision of a transparent and flexible light sources with very low energy consumption in the form of first demonstrators. Now the BMBF-funded joint project R2D2 will start in November 2014 aiming at the investigation of production-related processes and technologies for the manufacturing of flexible OLED. Read more »

Luminit provides high volume, low cost injection molded LSD® lenses for LED lighting products.  They are available in custom sizes and shapes up to 5.5 inches and in a variety of symmetrical and asymmetrical beam angles making them suitable for down lights, PAR and MR lamp formats.

Cree's groundbreaking SC5 Technology Platform powers the next generation of lighting with the introduction of Extreme High Power LEDs. The SC5 Technology Platform achieves unparalleled lumen density and longer lifetime at higher operating temperatures than previous LED technology, significantly reducing thermal, mechanical and optical costs at system levels up to 40%.

27~142VDC, 0.70~2.77A Output
Short Circuit, Over Current, Over Voltage, Over load and Over temperature Protections; IP67 design;
3 in 1 dimming function; MTBF 50,000 hours;
Suitable for street lights, tunnel lights, mining lamps, searchlights, stage lights and other outdoor LED lighting.

Highlight here is a Polycarbonate lens with strips on the surface. It can match different LEDs, such as from Osram, Cree, Philips and Seoul. It is 20.45mm diameter x 10.77mm height, made from optical grade polycarbonate. The efficiency is up to 93%. In addition to having the outstanding optical performance, the cost is lower and also it is easy to assemble.
