Dear  ,

This is the last LED professional Newsletter in 2013 and therefore a good time to look back at the past year.

The newsletters sent out in 2013 were full of new technologies, products and general news in the LED and OLED lighting world! LED and OLED lighting systems - starting with light sources and moving on to system boundaries continued (and will continue) to improve. We are definitely looking forward to 2014 being an interesting, innovative and trend-setting year!

In closing, I would like to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas, a Festive Holiday Season, and a Happy New Year 2014!

Yours Sincerely,
Siegfried Luger

The Right Choice of Current-Limiting Resistors for Constant Voltage LED Drivers

There are different resistor types for LED lighting available (Img: Riedon Inc) While LEDs are mostly driven by current sources, there are also several applications where constant voltage drivers are used. In that case current limiting resistors are mandatory. But that raises the question which resistor is the right one to guarantee reliable and accurate control while not compromising efficiency. Phil Ebbert, VP of Engineering at Riedon Inc. explains what to take care of and how to determine the correct parameters. Read more »

LED Lighting Masters the Art of In-Flight Calm on Airbus A380s and Boeing 787s

A380 Airbus Cabin Aboard a state-of-the-art aircraft might be the last place you would think of yourself enjoying a warm "candlelit" dinner, followed by a good night's sleep under a starry night sky. The truth is, the latest aircraft cabins seek to provide just that - a revolutionary in-flight experience through the use of mood lighting. Mood lighting uses the full spectrum of colors and the ability to change these colors continuously with LEDs to mimic or enhance a sunrise morning or a bright, fresh afternoon ... Read more »

Luminit DTF (Direction Turning Film)

Luminit's DTF is a non-symmetrical linear micro prismatic that imparts a 20 degree shift in the angle of a semi-collimated light source. The DTF works well with LED light sources that utilize secondary optics.  Some applications include recessed can lights to allow more wall washing, pathway/stairway lighting and pool lighting.

Osram Opto Improves Oslon Square for Longer Lifetime at High Temperatures

Osram Opto's new Oslon Square - better heat dissipation, stable color uniformity and a longer lamp life even at high temperatures Excessive heat generation is one of the main reasons why light-emitting diodes fail. With the Oslon Square, Osram Opto Semiconductors presents an LED that withstands high ambient temperatures particularly well. To ensure that the colors of several LEDs in a luminaire remain uniform even at higher temperatures, they are measured and binned at 85 degrees Celsius (° C), a temperature that comes very close to that encountered in lighting applications within buildings, in everything from spotlights ...
