Entrepreneurs and Innovation
Increasing Entrepreneur Success through Innovation

This month, we are taking a break from our pattern of releasing new e2 University resource packages. Instead, we are focusing on the interesting topic of innovation and its relationship with entrepreneurial development. Over the holidays, our team spent time exploring a number of readings related to innovation. We have captured some of this discovery in a new thought paper that can be downloaded here. We hope you find this paper helpful. We would love to hear from you. Feel free to post your thoughts on any of our social media platforms (found in the sidebar of this newsletter) or drop me an email at [email protected].

Field News

Economic Gardening. There is an article by T.J. Becker in the IEDC Economic Development Journal focusing on the "impact of economic gardening." Read it here.

The Factory Man. I am finishing up a book by Beth Macy called The Factory Man about John D. Bassett III and his efforts to save America's furniture industry and jobs. This is a great story that provides real insight into restructuring within America's economy tied to free trade and globalization. Read the New York Times book review here.

Where Wages are Lowest and Highest. Find interesting analysis on regional wage rates in the U.S. captured by Mike Maciag on governing.com. Once wage rates are adjusted for cost of living I was amazed at how similar they are from region to region. Check out the full report.

The Advantage of Public Lands. Headwaters Economics of Bozeman, Montana does really neat work with data and research. Their recent report, Haymakers Report: Montana's Economy, Public Lands, and Competitive Advantage is an important lead. Once again, this research documents the value of having access to public lands and spaces within the development context.

Deuel County, SD in the News. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to work with Deuel County, South Dakota. Recently, it was in the news as one of the most affordable communities in the United States.

Energy Boom and Bust. If you are following the news or buying gasoline, you know that oil prices have dropped significantly. Paul Majors from Telluride, Colorado shared a story from High Country News with us titled, "Lessons from boom and bust in New Mexico."
