Chapter 4 - TOW in Rural America
"Updated scenarios of the transfer of wealth opportunity in the U.S., shared in Chapter 3, suggest that in 2060 - over 50 years - $75 trillion will be passed from one generation to the next. This figure, like the earlier Boston College estimates, represents potential wealth transfer, wealth that might be used to capitalize the next generation of entrepreneurs, to finance a new generation of farmers, to ensure the education of grandchildren, to build a stronger financial future for churches, alma maters, and favored charities. But, what does it mean for communities and regions across the country, especially rural places? How can the transfer of wealth opportunity translate into a development resource opportunity for these places?"

Community Engagement Promising Practices.
The Center and its staff have a long history working with community foundations and community development philanthropy. Our work dates back to the creation of the Nebraska Community Foundation, we've worked with Bob Sutton with the South Dakota Community Foundation and done more than 40 Transfer of Wealth™ studies ranging from Brooklyn, NY and Los Angeles, CA to rural Montana. The Center is now partnering with Janet Topolsky and the Community Strategies Group with the Aspen Institute on a promising framework and process focusing on enhanced engagement between community foundations and their communities.
Field News
U.S. household net worth hits record high.
The Federal Reserve recently reported that the net worth of American households grew by $9.8 trillion, or 14 percent, last year. $5.6 trillion of this increase came from the stock market and $2.3 trillion came from rising home prices. Millennials in Adulthood.
Pew Research Center recently released a new report focusing on Millennial adults. According to the survey, "[The Millennial generation] are relatively unattached to organized politics and religion, linked by social media, burdened by debt, distrustful of people, in no rush to marry- and optimistic about the future." The report looks at the key political trends, policy issues and economic attitudes, technology use, and views on major societal trends. Although the report fails to explore the philanthropic attitude of this generation, it is a glimpse at how they think which is valuable in learning how to approach them with the idea of philanthropy.
